Police: Dog Left To Die At Construction Site
Reward Offered For Info Leading To Pit Bull's Trainer

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Middletown pet lovers have opened up their wallets as police search for those responsible for training a pit bull to fight and then leaving him for dead.

The dog was discovered at the construction site of the new Middletown High School.

"It was really beat up, some old scars, some new scars, really low temperature, hypothermic," said Dr. Jon Gustavson of Pieper-Olson Veterinary Hospital.

Employees of Middletown Animal Hospital, where the dog was originally treated, named the pit bull Gideon and said it was the worst case of injury from a dog fight they had ever seen.

Less than a day after being brought the animal hospital, Gideon died from his injuries.

"The whole leg was just swollen, probably got systemic. When it got here, it was just too late," Gustavson said.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Eric Parker reported that the community has put together more than $1,000 as a reward for information about person responsible for training and leaving the dog.

"I think it's a great thing to put money out to find this guy. I think it should be stopped," said Al Leary, of Middletown. "A pet's part of your family, that's what it becomes. To put an animal through this, it's cruel, it's terrible."

I'd contribute to this cause! Fighting them is bad enough.. but then to just leave the dog there to die in pain after he lost the fight? There's a nasty streak in me that says this guy should spend eternity with a pack of fighting pit bulls...
