Hi Gabby,

Unfortunately not  Embarassed

I have to work and not only that, I fractured my foot yesterday and am on doctors orders to stay off of my foot as much as possible (unless I want a cast).  I don't want a cast because I want to be able to ride my wave runner this summer  Embarassed

So, I didn't think it would be a good idea to go into a mob of 1 million today .... but I have been listening to the radio reports all morning and suffering from terrible envy.   Cry

Oh well, maybe next year, huh?   Wink

Gabby, I just bet you are relieved that the parade day finally came so that things can get back to normal now, lol  Grin

I'm so sorry to hear you broke your foot. Sad  I know they make water casts for kids for arms, do they not make them for the feet or for adults?

Oh I just read the news about your foot - so sorry to hear your news.

May I suggest a cast.  I hate to and please feel free to ignore everything Addams says.

My toe has been endless trouble for the last three weeks.  It messed up my gait and now both feet hurt.  I think that my toe should have been splinted to the other toe to help with the pain.  It just isn't possible to keep your foot up for three weeks.

Only just today - three weeks later - able I able to walk without a cane.

Please take it easy - Also a cast lets others know you are injured and they don't jostle you as much when you are walking. I know that was true of the cane as well.  Without it well I nearly was run over by bicyclists and usually crowds in the downtown all the time.

Now, how did you break your foot,  we would like to hear the rest of the story.

Hugs from Addams

Thanks guys for the well wishes  Tongue

Well, I wish I could tell you all something VERY interesting happened to me, like I broke it when I fell out of my chair when Brad Pitt kissed me, but sigh...nothing quite as interesting, Im afraid.

Actually, it is not even broken, it has a fracture in the joint area, in between where the big toe meets the knuckle (sorry! I don't know what else to call that round circle bone that sits right underneath the big toe and is the start of your foot).

Yesterday afternoon was a beautiful sunny day and I was at my brother in laws for fathers day dinner.  His two kids, ages 6 and 7, wanted to play baseball in the yard, but no one would play with them.  So, I went outside in my barefeet and was pitching and fielding as they were hitting and running to "fake" bases (1st base was a hard plastic kids golf club, 2nd base was the sand box, 3rd base was a soccer ball and home plate was a sweat shirt)  Roll Eyes

Then the guys came out and decided to play (it must've looked like we were having too much fun) and then of course it had to get all competitive.  So, I batted, hit the ball and was running to first base, when I tripped over it and stumbled and jammed my big toe really hard and then twisted it in such a fashion that I have never felt such pain in my foot before.  Voila!

One fractured foot!

Sigh.....

Now Im on the DL.

Anyways, thanks for the suggestion about the water cast Rhune, because if they do decide to cast my foot, I will be asking for it for sure (I didn't know of such a thing existed).

My doctor wanted to wait for one week and re-xray next Monday to see if it starts healing on its own. He said the fracture is in such a peculiar area that he would like to be able to leave a cast off if possible.

Addams, I might have to get a cane, my back already aches from limping around for a day and a half....

Boy, the things I used to take for granted.

 Grin

wingsnut, sorry about the foot.  I know they make water proof covers to go over casts.  You'll just have to check out some of the orthopedic web sites on where to order the bags.  I found some last summer when my daughter broke her arm, but I thought they were kind of pricey, so I decided not to buy it.

Contagion of broken toes/feet

Just might add for those who have not yet broken a toe or a foot - often the words bare feet and broken toe/foot appear in the same sentence.

Kramer - please heal quickly.  I am happy to loan you my cane.  I just retired it yesterday.

Ouch!  Sorry to hear about that, I'm way too familiar with foot troubles.  Although mine is a bit different, they have no clue what is going on - just theories.

Take care!

Owww! Sounds like a real pain. I go barefoot all the time and the worst thing that's ever happened was stepping on a bumblebee. I love being barefoot, especially on grass, or thick carpet. Anyway, I hope your poor toe heals really fast... er... Wingnut. (The obvious shortening of your new name is nut, and you know how we have a tendency to do that. Grin )

Gas, I KNEW I knew you!  Wink Just came from Lalake's thread.

Edited to add.... I hate those eyes at the top of the page. I find myself staring them down before I go on LOL.
