This may be a news item but I think the "Grapevine" is more appropriate spot for this post.  This one's for you Kramer.

Ron McLean is back at the bargaining table today.  The Globe and Mail is reporting that a deal was reached.  The other papers are reporting that it's a day of bargaining today only.

The all news radio station is reporting that McLean's agent says no deal yet.

The front page of the National Post quote McLean as saying that pressure from Labatt's breweries (sponsor of the show) has pushed CBC back to the bargaining table.  Mr. McLean says "The first thing I did when I woke up this morning is have a glass of Labatt's".

Will kee you posted Kramer. Wink

Hmm it seems within the first hours of the announcement, CBC received 10,000 emails.  Plus picketing outside their headquarters here in Toronto LOL

I haven't heard the confirmation but glad to hear it.  I am sure the whole country and then some (in Michigan and other border states) will be tuning in for the first show.  Great publicity stunt Wink

Yes - confirmation from www.globeandmail.com

MacLean signs new deal with CBC
Canadian Press

Thursday, October 3 – Online Edition, Posted at 6:53 PM EST

Ron MacLean and CBC agreed to a new contract Thursday, ensuring that the popular sportscaster will be back at his post on Hockey Night in Canada in just over a week.

We are delighted to have reached a compromise on this negotiation with Ron, one based on mutual respect and fairness; Nancy Lee, executive director of CBC Sports, said in a news release.

A news conference was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT at CBC's head office in downtown Toronto.

Lee and MacLean's representative Don Meehan agreed to a deal after meeting at the hockey agent's office in nearby Mississauga on Thursday afternoon. MacLean arrived at the CBC's head office in downtown Toronto on Thursday evening and officially signed the new deal.

Addams:  (at least they were sensible to get the news conference over before 8 PM - guess there are some survivor fans at CBC even though they don't carry the show)
