Have been playing for 5 years now. Something I have always wanted to do, so I did it. Everest.......look out :angel:

I usedto play the flute way back when, but I'm not even sure I could get a simple scale out now. I switched to singing about mid highschool and have been doing that ever since.

I, too, played flute in high school and used to "try" to play the piano. My daughters have the musical talent in this family. My youngest was a music major in college. Her primary instrument was saxophone and her secondary was piano. She is now a music teacher in an intermediate school and has a studio where she teaches piano, clarinet, and saxophone. She still play sax with a semi professional group. My oldest daughter played flute in high school and also in college (not a music major). Since her graduation from college she has developed a new musical passion. She now plays the Highland bagpipes. She plays for weddings, funerals, and other special occasions. She is temporarily "out of service" due to the upcoming birth of our first grandchild...................have you ever seen a pregnant bagpiper?

Back in my high school days I played flute, piccilo and oboe. I can also solo handbells and when I was much younger I played the organ.

Sadly, when I became of age to start the band I had braces....not good for blowing horns. My mouth just wouldn't make the right shape for the flute, and any woody instrument would have compromised my smile(so sayeth the orthodontist). The only option left to me was the drums....I took it. Boy was my mom ever sorry about that!! :smash:

I played the clarinet until 6th grade then I started on the Saxaphone, I played Alto, -> then tenor, and then baritone sax in the high school and college band.

In Choir the director made me just move my mouth and not sing. :singer:

Now I only play the computer.

I studied violin for about 6 lessons at my mother's insistence and every single one I went to the lesson and told the teacher I hated the violin and I would be quitting as soon as my mother let me. I think he finally spoke to my mother. LOL

I played about 8 months of cello in grade 8 as part of an introductory strings program but my highschool had no strings so I went for the flute (much easier to carry around than a cello, I might add).

I also play the piano. Started at about age 4 and still played the carols at our Christmas party this weekend.

i played the violin from fourth grade until i graduated from high school. i took private lessons for a short while in college. became expensive for me to keep up. mom was paying for all other lessons for all those many years. I still pick up my violin from time to time but as time goes on i am getting more and more rusty. i took piano lessons for 5 years ..i was not thrilled with that...piano and violin at the same time but but it was what my mother wanted.

now i still play the piano--just for things like carols at the holidays. i am currently teaching myself to play the recorder.

Tinkerbell - that's interesting about the piano and the violin. We started Wednesday on cello in the Suzuki program last year. She's progressing very nicely. This year I tried to add piano - it was too much. So we have dropped the piano for now - she did well and learned alot but it was not the same. I am enjoying her cello again so much more.
