Hong Kong Flu

My daughter was scheduled to get out of school for Christmas break this Friday.  We just heard on the radio that because of a Hong Kong Flu epidemic/plague,  that today is the last day of classes.  They aren't scheduled to go back to school until January 7th.  I am not ready for this!  I haven't wrapped the kids presents, or finished buying all of them.  Would someone please send this illness back to China?  I just don't have time to mess with it right now.

This is really frightening..............the Hong Kong flu must be rampant in your area.

The reason I have been gone from the boards so much the past few weeks is because my father had some sort of "flu" that went into pneumonia.  He was in the hospital for a little over a week, spent 2 1/2 days at home and is back in the hospital again now.  He is doing better and is supposed to go home again tomorrow.
The doctors never put a name to his "flu", so I don't know what we were originally dealing with all I know is that it is one nasty "bug".

I wonder if the Hong Kong flu is one that the flu shot was supposed to prevent this year?  Does anyone know?

As far as not being ready for Christmas, I can relate to that.  I have been dealing with my elderly parents through this disease and my Christmas preparations are running way behind schedule.  Hang in there Chicky, we'll make it.

IL, yes the Hong Kong flu is rampant in mine and Chicky's area.  Like chickmama said, her daughters school is closed until after Christmas and was closed part of last week.  There are at least 5 other school districts within a 30 mile radius of me that have been closed due to the flu.  I heard today, that they are concerned about the distict my daughter goes to school in and are talking about closing early for the holidays.   Today in her school by 10:00 they had sent home 7 kids with this and my daughter was telling me about more that got sick throughout the day.  I was home for work today with cheddar cause she started throwing up and running fever last night.  I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't develop into this flu.  East Texas is being hit very hard with this.

:yikes:.....this is horrible!  I'm sending more   to protect my buds and their babes!  I was hearing awhile back about a new flu - similar to Hong Kong flu but packs a harder punch.  Take care out there, East Tx!

And I'm so so sorry to hear your dad relapsed, IL.   Taking care of elderly parents can be extremely stressful - been there, done that.   They have their own mindset and want to keep their independence for as long as they can.  For me, seeing to their needs was/is a lot more taxing than my newborns.

Sending lots more prayers to everyone!  :grouphug:

Sorry to hear about your dad IL.  Unfortunately for Kaci, they closed school a little too late.  She's got it.  Sigh!  Crypto, how's Kiwi hanging in there?

Crypto, chickmama, Irishlass and everyone with sick family.   :grouphug:  Keeping all of you in our prayers.  Little Wednesday was asking againg last night at prayer time about Irishlass.  So cute to hear her trying to say that name.  Her tongue sometimes gets in the way but she tries again.

We have had something in Toronto called the Norwalk virus.  It's been virulent.  It has shut down over 11 emergency departments at hospitals to try to control the virus.  In one hospital 100 staff had the virus.  The concern is for persons who don't have full immune systems - to keep them from getting this illness.  Same with nursing homes.  Some schools have also closed because of the amount of illness.

It's a nasty bug - hope you all are getting better.

Oh no Chicky!!! Sorry Redbird has this stuff.  I hope she's well by Christmas, so she can enjoy it.  Kiwi is hanging in there.  Her's was just 24 hours and the next day Cheddar had the same thing and again just 24 hours.  We have coughs and runny noses, but no fever or aches.  I'm knocking on wood that we have eluded this bug.

addams, isn't the Norwalk virus what they have been having on the cruise liners that have shut them down?

Just lovely  .  Luke just got up from his nap, he's running a fever.  Boy I bet my ped's nurse is gonna love me for calling her at 1:30 in the afternoon, but I can't take the chance of him feeling like Kaci.  Sigh, here we go again.
