You are all so supportive of everyone, it is my turn to ask for help. I just received a phone call that one of our very dear friends has been injured critically in a car accident this morning. He has several broken ribs and a head injury. After a CAT scan at our local hospital, they determined that there is bleeding in his brain and they rushed him to a larger hospital in Indianapolis. Please keep Dan and his family in your prayers.

I so know what they are going through. It has been almost 3 years since Mr. Irish's accident and that call this morning brought those memories rushing back for me. This is going to be a rough time for all who are close to him.

Thank goodness that they diagnosed what was happening so quickly and got him to the better hospital for his needs. I'm sorry to hear it happened at all though, and I will keep him in my thoughts and send good wishes his way. Please keep us updated on how everything goes.

Thank you all for your kind words, positive thoughts and prayers. Dan is in the Neuro Critical Care Unit and at this point they are keeping a very close eye on him. He will have another scan in the morning and they will reevaluate the situation after that. He is in a lot of pain and they are keeping him sedated. His vitals are good.
The bleeding in the brain is at the front and they tell us that if you have to have it, that is the best place for it to be. He regained consciousness before they got him cut out of the car and drifted in and out after that. When my husband got to the hospital Dan knew him. Things are bad, but they could be worse. Keep the positive energy coming. Again, thank you all.

Thank goodness he has Mr. and Mrs. Irishlass as a friend and someone who knows what it is like. It must be really hard on both of you when you first heard the news. Dan's head injury is slowly getting better, no more swelling today. They did find a couple of small bruises on the back of his brain in addition to the original spot on the front. They did some preliminary neurological testing today and everything went well. The main concern at this point is his lungs. Nearly every rib is broken and he is unable to take deep breaths. They are inflating his lungs (I'm not sure how this works) every four hours for at least the next 24 hours and probably the next 48 to try to avoid pneumonia. I'll post an update as soon as I know anything new. Thanks for your concern.

We kept you and Dan and your parents in our prayers last night. I still think it's so cute how Wednesday says the words Irishlass. Thanks for the updates that will help us focus our prayers on his healing. Thank you for letting us know that the neurological tests went well. I was so grateful for this news.

Dan continues to improve. He has been moved from the Critical Care Unit and is now in a regular room. His lungs are doing great, but his ribs still hurt a lot. The head injury is causing him some problems...........his short term memory is not good and he is confused at times and still experiencing some hallucinations. He will probably be released sometime next week to a rehab facility closer to home. This is for all of you who have been so supportive during this time. :hug:

over the continuing problems with head injury though.

His family may want to consider helping him get some counseling as well once he's healed a little more. My experience in the past is that people who've suffered a head injury are often very angry about it and/or have some trauma & recurring nightmares that can really be helped by certain therapies, like EMDR.
