I thought I would start a weight-loss/life-style modification thread for those of us making to attempting such things in the New Year.  Good Luck, everyone!  Cool  :crossfingers:

They (Who ARE "they", anywayHuh) say that drinking lots of water is a good way to lose weight, so, I just filled up my 32-oz "Big-Gulp" type mug with cold water, and a splash of lemon juice to make it drinkable.

 Good good on you Eric.  Being a former fatty - losing weight is just awful.  But keep drinking that water and watch your sugar levels.  Move that body too.  Before you know it - you'll be right where you want to be.

And best of luck to you too CM.  Please - be careful of those fat pills.  Sounds like a money-making scheme to me. :uhoh:

Yes, the problem I have with the fat-pill concept is, even if they're safe, are you going to take them for the rest of your life?  If not, what will stop you from regaining the weight you lost while on the pills?  Eating less, and exercising more seems like the only sustainable way to do this.  YMMV, though.

since november, i have lost six pounds...slowly but surely...i still have 25 pounds to lose...

i am drinking water...

rubbing on my progesterone cream (apparently extra estrogen causes weight gain and lowered energy so NO WONDER i have always been about ten pounds over and tired!   :steamed: Smiley )...

doing pilates in the morning and yoga at night (walking to my aunt's store during the day)...

i am off processed sugar completely...i only use honey or maple syrup if the need arises

i am off dairy as i am lactose intolerant.

i am attempting to keep my carbs lower than they were...no more extra potatoes, carrots, rice, bread (i can't have regular bread anyway ~ no yeast)...no alcohol, no caffeine, no decaf...i have a strange hickory coffee...remember that i am atempting good hormonal health as well and not everyone needs to do this.

i take a pms supplement and one called crave-free from the makers of greens.  i plan on buying the lean one too if i ever get off this computer and walk to the store.... :dizzy:

anyway, that is me and i can tell all of you that it is a pleasure to be in the company of such amazing people!

I have my 6 month after baby check-up coming soon, I certainly plan on asking my doc before starting the program, or pills.  My main concern isn't that they aren't safe for me, but that I'll have to wait a few months until Luke's weaned to start them.  I've joined a health club, and I plan on that being my main means of weight loss.  We are putting in a swimming pool this summer.....this means drastic measures for mama!!

The best weight loss measure I've found is counting fat grams.  Set a limit for yourself...say 15 grams a day.  I no time the weight will just drop off.  It also teaches you to eat healthier all the time, which is the ultimate goal.  That way you never have to worry about diets again.  There are also wonderful alternatives on the market like baked potato chips and "light" items.

Be wary of any diet food cooked in "Olean".  It's especially used in potato chips, etc.  My father pigged out on a bag of Doritos cooked with Olean a couple years ago and it caused an attack of diverticulitis so badly that it nearly killed him.  It can also block your body's ability to absorb certain vitamins, so over time eating enough of these and you'll effectively become malnurished.

:yikes: Ewwww Rhune.  Your poor dad.  Thanks for mentioning the Olean issue.  Since I never eat diet-type foods, I had completely forgotten about Olean.

You're right crypto.  Counting fat-grams and/or carbs is key.  My daughter is doing just that as we speak.  Her weight has skyrocketed to 160 lbs.  She's about 5' 5" or so.  She lost 22 lbs after the baby was born but somehow, gained back 10.

Good luck, everyone.  Try to remember though, that you didn't put "it" on overnight - you won't take it off overnight.  Just go slow and easy.   Cool

Yikes, that sounds awful.  I do try to eat very healthy foods, I pretty much only drink water.  Not so much because I want to lose those extra baby pounds, but because I'm solely responsible for Luke's nourishment.  Granted, the holiday's have been filled with goodies that I probably should have declined.  I love to bake, and desserts are my specialties.  Now that the holidays are over however, my family is just gonna have to do without.

Just wanted to say Good Luck and give a  :grouphug: to all who are on the weightloss wagon. I did my weightloss over a year ago now, lost 25lbs and have kept it off.  It was tough, required a lot of commitment, but I know how tough and resolved you people are and you can do it!

I will be here to cheer you all on....good luck!!

i have to laugh (or i'll cry) about all the exercise and dieting i have done in the past two years...i am now certain that the moment i started gaining weight was when i went on a full doage of anti-depresants...about three sizes over the full two years...crazy, huh?  it was so strange because i hadn't changed my eating habits and started exercising last year (there is one resultion from last year that i have kept up with)...i remember attempting to diet with everyone last year and how frustrated i was with my weight which did not change until i went off those anti-depressants... :barf:

so for those of you who may be on an anti-depressant (the full dosage, small amounts don't seem to be that bad), please do not let your weight bother you that much as it may not be as bad as the alternative if you stopped taking medication.

Boy, this thread was pushed to the second page quickly.  Here we are, almost a month into the year.  I've only been seriously watching my fat intake, and working out for 2 weeks.  I hope everyone else who's trying to lose weight is having early success.  I have joined Curves, it's a health club just for women.  I'm sure there's a website... http://www.curvesinternational.com/index.asp    .....It's a lot of fun, doesn't take up much of my day, there are no men allowed!, and there aren't many 18-21 hardbodies there.  Mostly, it's mom's like me.  The first day I was there, they weighed and measured me.  All of the gruesome facts were recorded into my file.  One day soon(I'm not sure when) they will reweigh and measure me.  Gosh, I hope they tell me my bodyfat percentage has shrunk...I just about passed out when they said I had 24% bodyfat.   :yikes:  Good or bad, i'll let you know.
