High School Activities
« on: Jan 30th, 2003, 8:59am »

During a conversation with a friend yesterday, the subject of high school activities came up.  We were discussing the fact that some of the activities we chose in high school are still a part of our lives all these years later.  I thought it might be interesting to see what activities everyone participated in when they were teenagers (I know, for some of us, this is going back a long way).

I was in Band and Choir.  I was also a member of GAA (Girls Athletic Association--no organized sports for girls in those days).  I belonged to the Sunshine Society (a community service group).  I was a National Honor Society member and the president of the FHA (Future Homemakers of America).  I was also a member of Tri-M, a music honorary.

I really enjoyed my high school years, and I guess I wanted to "do it all".  I still  have a wide variety of interests, some of which reflect those early interests.

I was in drama and choir & was a theatre/music major at college.  At this point neither of those play a part in my life, but I have been thinking a lot lately about signing up for a singing course at the local college for fun.

I was in drama and actually made it to semi-finals at state competition ...
I don't use that now, but I do live in California, where millions are "discovered" every day ... so I'm waiting to be discovered   Wink

In high school, I was a member of our annual staff, I still take lots of picts of my family.  I headed lots of fund raisers for my class...As an adult, I served 2 years as my school's PTA President.  Talk about fundraisers!  I spent all 4 of my high school years crazy about my boyfriend.....Today I've been married to him for 13 years.  Yep, I'd say high school impacted my life.

Oh, this is a neat thread! But... I'm not sure what I can remember all this time later, and I don't think any of the stuff I did then applies now LOL. Actually I had less fun in high school than before and after.

I went to four different high schools. At one, I was a flag girl with the band, not the kind of flag you twirl, but the big heavy kind you carry. We had three, the state, the USA and the school ones. Being in parades was more fun than football games, and we got to be in more parades than the twirl girls. Wink

The last two years were at the same school and I did lots more there. I guess my claim to fame was being head cheerleader and captain of the volleyball team. We kicked ass.  Grin I was on the debate team, in choir (but I detested the teacher so didn't last long with that), and was in the school "beauty" thing LOL. That was fun and learning to walk in a damn hoop skirt was hysterical. Can you say Carol Burnette? LOL If we'd had a drama department, I'd have been in that for sure.

I dropped out of high school just a few months from graduation to get married. Smart huh? But later, sans the high school sweetheart hubby (mine only made it for two years CM LOL) I did the GED thing and went to college. College was a lot more fun than high school, and I was lots more active and got more honors. Sending myself back to school to get a degree was the best thing I've ever done for me. Not just for the degree, but for the experience.   :sunny:

I may get bashed for saying this but.....gawd!  I hated school.  We moved so often but the worst move for me was my last year in highschool.  The really only "good" thing for me was that I learned early on to make friends so I could go with the flow.

The best move was right after my senior year, when we moved to Santa Barbara.  I secretly vowed to put down roots there and enrolled in SB Business college.

So many years ago - that was.  And now I'm in Canada.  "..... :singer: ...I left my rooooots, in Santa Barrrrrrrbra......."  sigh

heh. how did i not see this thread before?

well, here in ontario we had FIVE years of high school. i was pretty shy during my first two years, then came out of my shell after. i wrestled during 9th grade. i skiied during all five years, and i was the student co-ordinator of our ski club during my last two years. a few friends and i did improv during our last year, just for he hell of it.
as for other activities- i was a member of our "math jeopardy" team, and wrote multiple math contests.
i also played hockey, although not for the school.

high school consisted of so many random memories.
