Unlike devices like cochlear implants, which merely stimulate brain activity, the new silicon chip implant will take over the tasks of the damaged part of the brain. I wonder if such a recipient would have to relearn what they've forgotten? Or if some things would slowly be remembered. You know how it's said elephants never forget? Wonder what they have to make that so?

Seriously though, losing memory is no laughing matter - which may be why we all joke about it - there's simply not much we can do about it anyway. Maybe - until now. Can you imagine the thrill of an Alzheimer's patient if he/she could "come back" again. Or the stroke or accident victim. This boggles my mind - or what I have left.

Well the girls on Survivor are into implants - maybe they could benefit from something like this? (the ditzy implant enhanced ones I mean - oh like Heidi)
