Though I'm sure this has been discussed before, I thought it would be fun to do it again - especially since we have several new members.

MzWings:  I chose this to honour my yellow cockatiel (now 15 yo).  He's a he, but I'm not, thus the "Mz".

Wings was named for one of my fav actors - Wings Hauser.

So - who's next?

grumble grumble...okay..you got me..I will share...

darnchts...very inventive I might add. I bought my computer and was terrified of all the horror stories of how people can track you down on the net..so I sat in front of it trying to come up with a user name that could be universal..email, id's, etc etc....they say to take something you love and that way it will become part of you...

Sooooo, Darlene being my r/l name, Dar being the nic that all my friends used to call me..but now just internet friends do...Dar had to be the first part to keep it part of me. At the time, I had 5 animals. 4 of them were cats: Nuisance, Calvin, Tiger and Hobbes. 1 dog: Shadow.

sooooo, Nuisance was my baby and I wanted him to be a part of my nic...but decided to make everyone..and Dar N(Nuisance) C (Calvin) H (Hobbes) T (Tiger) and S (Shadow) was born...and it is a nic that no one forgets..good or bad. I did the lettering on purpose to make it mysterious. I even bought a vanity plate that had darn5 on it since the state doesn't allow 8 letters on a plate. That had everyone guessing. It could stand for Dar N 5 or the DARN 5 animals... :laff: I chose to get rid of the plate though this year since I lost Nuisance and it is no longer true.

People call me Darn Shts (insert the i) as a joke a lot and when I first got it, I was in an AOL chat room all the time that was a cat chat room and everyone thought it stood for darn cats or darn chats...I never bothered to tell any of them what it really meant. But it was creative and though I only have Hobbes and Shadow left..it will always be my nic..and it is one that no one else takes so I can use it anywhere I go...

Okay..wake up now..I'm done... :laff:

YOU ASKED!!!!

Ohhhh..and I can't seem to figure out a way to ever add Jeff to the mix. Do you know that at one time..Nuisance had his own email. Man ..did I used to freak out my boss all the time sending him jokes and things from Nuisance... man I miss that cat.

When I got my computer for Christmas in 2000, I was a total "newbie".  I had never touched a puter before and was learning by doing.  I ventured into another chat room and had to come up with a nick.  It was very close to St. Patrick's day and I have some Irish blood flowing through these old veins so I opted for Irishlass.  The nick seemed to fit so I continued to use it.  The only time it has ever caused a problem was in the CBS survivor chat room where someone chose to call me Irish Ass.  Embarassed

Mine was a character in a book I had read and enjoyed, but when I entered it in the first time, I mis-remembered how it was spelled and added the "h" in.  After I realized it was wrong, I decided I liked it better this way, and have kept it ever since. Smiley

Love to read these stories !!!

I alreaady knew about Wings name and I am sooooo glad to know now about Dar !  I was shy to ask..hehehe

IL... whatever name we would use in CBS chat room, there will always be a moron to twist it the wrong way..sad but true.

Rhune, I thought you had chose your name after the rocks some people use to predict the future..lol  they are called rhune in french, but I dont know if its the same in english.

As for my name, my first time ever in a chat room was the day after Jerry was gone from S2, and I was Sheisgone.
Then I used a lot of She_names and after a vacation I was Sheisback, and I liked it and kept it. Althought, a lot of people know me as JJ, or Janis because its also a name I use for chat rooms.

Unlike most of you, I did not choose my nickname.  Mine goes back a number of years.
Mine was "bestowed" on me by several of my co-workers.  Well, before I knew it, the moniker had stuck.  It goes back to a 1975 and a TV Show called "The Blue Knight".   There was a character called "Bumper" Morgan, played by George Kennedy.  "Bumper" was a street wise, (ahem) "seasoned" individual, who worked hard, played hard and always got his man. Wink  Thankfully though, I bear little resemblance to Mr. G. Kennedy.

There was also a movie in 1973 by the same name, starring William Holden and Lee Remick.   Loosely based on the novel by the same name by ex LAPD Detective Joseph Wambaugh.

Bumper is such a perfect name for the message boards too.  Cool stories everyone.  I knew some but I too was too shy to ask Dar (shyness goes with my innocence).

Addams is because I love the addams family.  It was my favourite show when I was a little girl and I used to get to stay up an extra 30 minutes to watch it on Friday nights. Yes, I watched the original addams family.

everyone calls me adams alot and universally think I am a guy called adam.  I don't mind.  it's lots of fun and has just stuck.

Sheisgone was how I first met Sheisback and She invited me or showed me how to get into the CBS chat room via a back door approach and to make sure it was working I used a different nickname - cymbals.  Just a spur of the moment thing with no specific meaning at all although lots of folks think it means symbols.

So I use cymbals still on the ezboards.

cool thread.

Embarassed I dont know if you remember this Addams... When we first started to talk... I asked you something like :
"Do you have Msn messenger? Do you think your wife would mind if I added you to  my buddy listHuh" Embarassed  This how I learned that Addams was in fact a she..lol

I have never been good at guessing people's gender from chat room names.  Undecided

Cool

Great thread!!!

Okay, I was new to the boards and to the PC world in 2000 during the first season of Survivor.  During my forays into the CBS site, I was invited to another site, that being SA.  On the CBS site I had been using Irishlass since I am Irish on both sides of my faimly.  Of course, at SA, that name was already being used.  I think it may have been you IL.

Sooooooooo....I had to come up with something new and I chose Dixie (Dixie418 at ezboards) because I was born and raised in the south, and will always consider it home, even though I live in PA and have for many years longer than I ever lived in Alabama.

Also, last year when we got a puppy, I decided to name her" Kiskadee's Heart of Dixie", Dixie for short.  She is a beautiful Vizsla  and if I could figure out how to insert a picture in this darn thing, I would show her off to the world!!!

excellent thread!

My name came from one of my cats.  I got her when she was like 3 months old, she had the most gorgeous blue eyes, so I named her azure ( a shade of blue)  of course one week later her eyes changed to gray, but the name stuck, I liked it, and I started chatting shortly after I had to put the feline AZURE down (she got very ill) so I chose my nickname as a little honor to her, and it stuck.

Now, addams....I must admit I thought you were male when I first saw you in another room, and I thought, holy smokes  "he" seems so sweet and entertaining, and funny, etc etc....boy was I let down to discover you were a female Smiley  course  now I am glad you are, and have enjoyed running into you again here

ok, I think I rambled enough.........   Lips Sealed

I find it interesting that when women see "me" but think I am a guy - they are so interested in me as a person.   Must be relating to something we can connect to as women.  Cool.

I am really enjoying this thread too.

Sheisspecial - I had forgotten that story! totally forgotten.  Made me smile as I read it again.

i always love these threads.  i enjoy reading about everyone's nics.

now, for me...eastendgirl.  well, it all started offline...i absolutely loved the pet shop boys years ago and they had a song "west end girls".  in the last few years though, i have been drawn more and more to the downtown eastside of vancouver, one of the poorest postal codes in north america (the poorest in canada), with the highest rate of new AIDS cases in the world along with africa, large numbers of mentally ill individuals, others on disability and addictions...when i first started being drawn there, some how the "west end girl" song came to mind but i changed it to reflect my new passion.  since that time, i have now come to live in the east end of vancouver, though not in the dtes, relatively close to there.
