My weekend

just easier to start a new topic...that way you all can skip it if you don't want to read this...
This was copied from Chatter so some of it was told as it was happening:

I made it to Vermont in one piece..boys were great the whole way. We got almost here and a deer stepped right out in the road..I swerved and missed him...wow..talk about scary.

I got the boys in bed and was sitting watching TAR while Mom was doing her checkbook and suddenly Shadow started barking...it woke Dean up and he came out and asked why she was barking. I made her come inside and two minutes later in walks my niece. OMG...I CAN'T believe Mom never told them I was bringing the kids up tonite...they had told her they were coming in the morning..and I will be long gone by then. I was so irritated that they came up early. After much humming and hawing while I tried to ignore all of them while watching the rest of TAR and asking them over and over to keep their voices down so as not to wake the boys...it was finally decided that my brother and SIL would go to a hotel, Amanda would sleep with mom and Michael would take Amanda's room. I don't know bout this trip so far. I packed the whole car when I got home tonite only to realize that the wood is packed too tightly around the coolers and now I can't get the soda and bottled ice into them in the morning without undoing all I did.

I let the boys sleep till just after 6am while I redid the car. I then had a horrible time getting them up and we never got under way till 7am, one hour behind schedule which wasn't bad. The drive was actually very nice..not too hot or cold. But then we started hitting towns that were setting up for parades for the 4th. We ended up in one called Farmington Maine that had the entire road blocked so I had to go around but there were no signs telling me how to get back to route 2 so I drove around for almost an hour before we finally found the cops leaving and could go through town to find it. Oh...and the route to Bar Harbor is all through towns..no highway except one very small section. We made pretty good time and arrived in Bar Harbor around 2 though I had expected it would be 3. We got registered at the campsite and that was the last thing that went as planned.

My cell phone had no reception which was wierd since it has sketchy reception at mom's and hers is not near any big city. So we had to use the pay phone at the camp to call my mom and the boys mom. Then I called the whale watch company to make reservataions for the 4:00 whale watch and got told that they are not running that one anymore. We had been given a tourist book at the camp office so I looked and found the other major whale watching company and called it. They were unsure if they were sending anymore boats out cause the fog was thick. The lady wouldn't just give me a straight answer..told me to call back.

So we went to the campsite and now the boys are a little uptight and they start bickering (the joys of twins) I set them to work putting up the tent which James takes the bull by the horn, Dean sits and says he can't do it. In the end, it was Dean that figured out what we were doing wrong. After Lunch, I go back and call back the whale place and get told that the fog has cancelled everything.

so I decide that we will sight see Friday afternoon and take a whale watch out Saturday afternoon after deep sea fishing. James is all for this..Dean wants to go swimming. I hear over and over how much he wants to go swimming..but I didn't drive 6 hours for him to spend all afternoon in the pool.
So we go sightseeing where I got told over and over by Dean that he is bored. I'm ready to drop this kid off Cadilliac mountain which is the highest peak on the Eastern Coast. I finally decide I have had enough..we did get a few good pictures on top of the mountain and I even had mine taken with the boys which is a first.
So I offer to take them minature golfing. Dean doesn't want to. (And according to their parents, James is the difficult child)
So I tell him he can sit and the car and play his game boy while James and I play. He plays and has a great time..toward the end, he turns the game into a competition and drives me insane once again so I lose my patience.

We leave and I decide that I should probably make reservations for the rest of the trip since nothing else is going right. Well I call the deep sea fishing place only to discover that they have been booked solid for over 2 weeks. There is no way I could have made reservations that far out cause I didn't know from day to day about mom. So now, I'm about to cry..James has his heart set on fishing and I can't believe we can't go. So I look back through the tourist book and find a smaller company that only goes out 4 hours. Say a quick prayer and call and they have room. So I then called and made reservations to make sure we were on both whale watch boats.
James handles the shorter trip news okay...and we head off to find a drive up dairy bar thing that serves food too so we can get back to Bar Harbor to watch the fireworks. We are late and can't get into the Harbor but find a place nearby that is a beach that others are on. We finally find a place to park and scramble down to the beach and Dean is immediately bored, the fireworks are not as good as Concord's and can we leave now. James and I enjoyed them though from a distance they are not as pretty .
So back to camp afterward late. We go to take showers. The boys find that one of theirs is unlimited and make full use of it which takes away the hot water of mine and the water is freezing. The boys later can't sleep and stay awake way too long and I feel like mom getting up to tell them to be quiet and sleep.

I have a horrible time getting either boy up the next day and we rush down to the docks 30 minutes early and can't find the boat. There is a lot of fog and makes it hard to see. We keep asking for the Margaret Todd but keep being told it is a Windjammer, not a deep sea boat. Finally Dean stops being lazy and notices through the fog that there is a seperate harbor further up and sure enough...with 5 minutes to spare..we find the place. The help has not showed up so we were okay the whole time but I was sure that we had missed the boat. We get out there, the captain's sonar shows tons of fish..but not much wants to bite. I had threatened the boys that this would not be a competion and thankfully they listened. I caught the first fish of us three..and it was the 2nd largest one of the day..James caught the 3rd largest..but the sad part is that Maine is so over fished that the laws for cod are 23 inches. Mine was just under 20 (it was huge) and James was around 17. We had our pictures taken..then said bye bye to the fishy. Within the first 2 hours, Dean got bored and sat and stared at the water instead of fishing. James and I both got a good look at a Bald Eagle that came down to watch us in a tree. It was wicked cool..I don't recall seeing one in the wild. In the end, I was glad the trip was only 4 hours.

We got back and went shopping a little before the whale watch. We got back to the whale watch an hour early and already people were lined up halfway up the harbor. We ended up with not the greatest viewing spots. It didn't matter though cause we spotted one minke and one finback the whole trip. We saw lots and lots of seals and porpoises though so I renamed the trip, the seal and porpoise watch. They tried really hard though and even kept us out almost 2 hours longer.
We got back, went to camp, sent the boys swimming only to have them return 30 minutes later saying that they were kicked out cause they were too young to swim alone.
The next morning..couldn't get either boy up and couldn't get them to pack or take down the tent without a lot of nagging. We finally got done and to the whale watch and luckily the fog was not like the other 2 days so we went out. We went to the island where the puffins are first and they put on a rare show for us by staying near the boat. My digital wasn't doing very good taking good pictures so I handed my 35 mm to James just in case. He had a ball taking pictures of things all day for me. My pictures didn't come out well at all but am hoping his did. We left the island and on the way to the "ballpark", a finback popped up. Half the people on this boat ride were sick and puking..the other half just weren't interested in being there and found nothing exciting about this finback. The boat moved further toward the ballpark and we ended up finding two humpbacks. These two were feeding together which is odd and were very slow on the surface..if my camera had co-operated..I would have had some of the best fluking shots ever..but am hoping James got at least one. This trip was by far the best thing and made the rest of the weekend better. James had a really good time...Dean fell asleep on the boat on the way back. The whale watch lasted longer than it was supposed to so we could watch the humpbacks and we were almost 2 hours late starting back. It was a long trip back. We did have a great time among all the bickering and Dean's I'm boreds...and it all worked out in the end..but man was my stress level up there. OHHHH, and that woman thing started on the boat of all places Saturday...oh..the joys of womenhood...it is just so highly overrated...

oh..and one more thing..I look like a lobster in the face anyway...I think it is more windburn than sunburn however..which is why I didn't feel it till today..

Okay..now let me say that both boys are really good...they were just being kids and I do love both of them like they were my own blood relatives.

On the trip down, THEY began a conversation about their real dad and then the conversation turned to drugs and addictions. These kids blow me away. They both have high morales and are both very set that they will never do drugs, smoke or drink. I guess we should try to see the good in everything and maybe seeing what drugs did to their dad, has helped convince them to stay away from them. James even told me that speeding is dumb and he never intends to speed. I'm so proud of both of them and really hope that they don't change these beliefs. We actually had several really good serious talks during this trip. All in all the trip was a really good trip and other than everything not fulling into place easily..I was very blessed that I got to take them and that we had beautiful weather and that we arrived there safely and back home safely. It did cost a lot of money and since their mom is raising my rent again next year..I explained to the boys that this probably would be the one and only time we could do something like this. I do intend to still take James to Spooky World in October and both boys really want to go back and spend a weekend in Vermont with my mom while she is still up to it so we might go back to the corn maze again this year in August to do that.

Anyway..that's about it. I am going to try to remember to bring in the film to Walmart tomorrow so I can have it back. If James did get some decent pictures..I will ask Rhune to host a couple of them. Sorry if I bored everyone...

oh..it was Azure..I think we did a leg of the Amazing Race..and it proves that I wouldn't handle the stress being on there. Though I must say that I was pretty good for me. I only tried to kill Dean once..okay..okay..maybe twice..but that's all I swear...... :laff:   (now you know why there are no kids in Dar's future... :laff:  )

All in all..it was an awesome weekend and I'm really glad I did it. The boys did appreciate it and they did have a great time and I bonded with both of them a little more. I just love them both to pieces...
