this is the number of Tickets sold to the Rolling Stones concert to be held on - you guessed it - July 30, 2003 here in toronto.

It should be a national holiday IMHO.

NOT going.  430,000 people is over my limit for having fun.  It will be a nightmare for me - but I will watch it on TV that evening.  It's an all day rock concert.  Not just the stones.

By the way when the pope came last year there were 500,000 people and afterwards they made a mistake and drained the portolets too quickly and also some idiots put their raincoats down these portolets (they are the mobile outhouses) and when they were drained the raincoats plugged the sewer system and the sewage from 500,000 people backed up into several businesses and homes and needless to say caused a major bit of litigation around here.

One business was a well known furniture company.  He had to throw out every piece of furniture in his store.  Another company went out of business because he could not wait for compensation.

There are tons of restrictions on what can be brought to the site.  Umbrellas are not permitted.  There is a 30 percent chance of rain

What happened with the sewage was that one of the companies contracted to dump the stuff from the porta-potties dumped it down a pipe that hadn't been pre-approved.  So it hadn't been checked beforehand for blockages.

And it will help the economy, 'm sure, except its being promoted as helping the SARS relief fund.  Unfortunately, from the $21.50 ticket price, only one dollar makes it to sars affected families, whereas ticketmaster is making more than that per ticket on their processing fee.

well, at that rate, though pitiful, it is still $430,000 more dollars for the sars affected families than before.  i am imagining that the average price to see the rolling stones (plus all the other bands including tea party who i would love to see!) is much more than this and they will have to pay set up/take diwn crews, whatnot.  so i don't know how i feel about the $1 per ticket...but then i read this...

Quote:
Concert profits, as well as $1 from each ticket sold, will go to hospital workers who have lost income as a result of being in quarantine from SARS, and hospitality workers who have lost business because of the disease. The money will be distributed through a relief fund set up by Molson.

and i wonder what are those other concert profits?

Concert profits should include all the food, alcohol, soda that is sold. Plus also they usually set up booths to sell merchandise for each band like t-shirts, tourbooks, hats, etc. Usually they are required to pay out a % of the sales to the place that holds the concert. Maybe in this case, they are donating more of the % to it. A normal concert is a huge moneymaker. I can just imagine what kind of sales they will do in just alcohol alone in this concert.

And actually if the tickets are only 22.00 a piece...WOW!!!
I have never attended a country concert for that cheap. The average price for concert tickets for a country concert here is about 58.00 through Ticketmaster with an 8.00 handling fee. A rock concert will net you about 75.00. A bunch of us had wanted to go see the final tour of the Eagles so we checked into tickets. The cheapest ones were 189.00 and they were balcony seats. The ones that were considered best seats but still rows away from the stage were 225.00 a piece. Needless to say, we didn't go.

it is expected that there will be a 16 million dollar influx into the specific district where the concert is held.

The downtown hotels are already showing a pick up in visitors.

It is helping. There are spin off effects.

Remember that the government paid 10 million for this concert to happen.

They also are using a local water bottling company who has been contracted for 4 million bottles of bottled water.  They won out over Pepsi and Coca Cola

They were offering package deals at CAD$79 for a ticket and a room at a hotel.

I even heard about some transportation packages.

But remember that with nearly half a million people you won't see alot but still you will hear it all.

They are working out a special plan for the end of the concert so that all the folks leave in an orderly fashion.

Local residents are renting out their driveways for $20 for the evening and maybe a day.  I have heard a variety of prices.

Rolling Stones 'SARS-stock' by the numbers

CTV.ca News Staff

The Rolling Stones have landed in Toronto and organizers are putting the finishing touches on what's expected to be one of the most important events in modern music history. Here's a look at some of numbers behind the concert.

450,000 -- Number of people expected to attend the Stones benefit concert.

$400,000 -- Amount of money expected to be raised from the concert for the hospitality and healthcare workers relief fund

4 million -- Number of litres of water available on site. Concert goers are allowed to bring in two bottles of water each -- once they're gone they can get free refills on site.

52 million -- Total number of dollars organizers expect 'SARS-stock' will pump in to the economy of Toronto. The province of Ontario estimates the SARS outbreak cost the tourism industry alone $325 million this year.

3,500 -- Nnumber of portable toilets (affectionately referred to as porta-potties) on site -- that breaks down to about one toilet for every 129 people.

1,545 -- Number of kilometres of toilet paper to be stocked in the portable toilets on site. Even though that's enough paper to stretch from Toronto to Winnipeg, organizers are recommending people bring their own TP with them.

250,000 -- Number of hamburgers for sale -- if you stacked them one on top of the other it would be four times the height of Toronto's CN Tower

1, 250 -- Number of Toronto police officers to be guarding the site. They'll be backed up by 1,450 private security workers and will be searching people for recreational drugs and alcohol.

325 -- Size of the park in hectares -- that's equivalent to 398 football fields. Organizers are recommending everyone wear supportive comfortable shoes and leave the sandals and high heels at home.

21.50 -- Cost of a single ticket for the Stones' concert. It's far less than the average price for a Rolling Stones ticket which was $212, up from last year's $158. The Stones estimated income for 2003 is expected to be $100 million.

All dollar amounts are in Canadian dollars.  Therefore a 21.50 CAD is about $15 USD.  Amazing deal for a Stones concert.

Also I have already seen a change in the demographics of folks here in the downtown that I had not seen all summer.  There are more people and there are alot more young people.

Noticed it when trying to drive through the intersections.   Cool  Cool Cool  Cool

the road closures start at midnight.

The venue opens I believe at 5 AM tomorrow morning (the 30th)
