good news

ok, to most of you who do not know this story I am about to share with you, this may not come across as good news, but trust me , it is!  Grin

This past new years eve a good friend of mine was at work and left her 16 month old son in the care of her other 17 year old son.  Long story short, the older son fell asleep and the baby figured out how to slide the sliding door to the sun room, was found about 40 minutes later floating in the hottub.

News at first was very very bleak.  Some wondered if he should have even been saved with CPR, etc etc  This little sweeties name is Logan.  He went from a smiling, happy, chubby little boy, to one who just lay in the hospital with a blank stare on his face and a ton of wires hooked up to him, this after several days of an induced coma to keep him still

Now the prognosis was not good, some doctors said this is how his life would remain.

Ok enter the good news.  I stopped to see Logan, he is about to be taken off of his feeding tube, which the original doctors swore could never happen.  He will now stand up with your support, he still needs to gain back his mid drift strength, but is making tremendous strides towards this. Logan also is beginning to make "baby sounds" which are conducent to him hopefully beginning to speak. he can now grasp things with his fingers, and has mastered putting things in his mouth normally a mothers nightmare, what is he going to put in his mouth next? is a God send in this case.  Logan can now also do "so big" as nearly every mother has taught their child.  You need to get him started but once you do, he begins laughing and does it on his own, it is enough to bring tears to ones eyes to see, considering where he was six months ago.  Logan has come such a long way, and his neurologist has said, forget what every other doctor has told you, if you think his progress was good this past six months, just wait and see what the next six months hold in store for Mr Logan.  Cool Cool

I am sure this sounds confusing, but trust me if you saw this poor baby 6 months ago and again today, it would amaze you.  Tongue

PS  as for the older brother, he is finally coming to terms with it, and has never given up on his baby brother.  he has alot of guilt but is learning to deal with it, day by day!

Feel free to add these friends to your prayer list, I know they are on mine daily!  But as I said, this is meant to be a positive post, not a negative one  Grin

Azure..that is such a happy mid ending to such an awful beginning. I will certainly keep them in my prayers and it is amazing what children that age can bounce back from..and it helps to have all those prayers too. Give him a huge hug from me the next time you see him...he sounds like a doll. And what is past is past..so hopefully big brother can begin to forgive himself ...adults do this same type of thing every day and they know much better..it was an accident!

 to you, Logan and his family...

I'm so glad to hear he is doing better!  I feel terrible for his brother.  My mother, who is a psychologist, once told me that the only people who come to therapy that never find peace, never forgive themselves, are the ones who have accidentally killed a child.  I hope this 17 year old gets some counseling and is able to heal as well.

This is a beautiful story azure!  We all need to know of positive stories like this.  Thanks and prayers for continued wellness of this baby boy and on the way.

Az thanks for the update about Logan here.  I will continue to keep him in all my prayers.

about 16 years ago my little cousin was born and she had numerous neurological defects.  She could not sit up and she could not swallow. She had no use of many of her muscles.   She was fed on a feeding tube and did not talk for a long time.

Her mother quit her job and worked with her daily and this little one who had a very sad prognosis started to turn around.  She began to swallow on her own and could be taken off her feeding tube.  And prayers.  so many prayers every day for her and her family.  she now goes to high school and got a few A's this past year.  She is just turning 16 years old this year.  She has some disability with how she talks but she is a wonderful and warm and caring and active teenager.

Prayer works and it is very powerful.   What wonderful news about Logan - he will keep on growing and developing with that constant care.

Also I read another article yesterday from the journal Neuropsychology.   Yet another study has shown how music at all ages and the study of music including playing an instrument will contribute to verbal language skills and memory development.  It was a study of 90 boys (in Hong Kong).

There is so much we are learning about the brain and its flexibility.  It needs to be challenged but those neural connections CAN be re-established.

Cool  Cool Yay Logan and his family.   Tongue  Tongue  Keep up the good work and addams will keep up her prayers.
