OK this is part advertisement and part useful.  This fellow named Dr. Weil sells books and programs for healthy eating.  I subscribe to his daily email for health.  Today's is particularly helpful and I know that there are many women on the boards so it may help them too.

Quote:
Tip: Preventing PMS
Many women who have premenstrual syndrome (PMS) experience symptoms such as depression, tension, anger, difficulty concentrating, lethargy, changes in appetite, and a feeling of being overwhelmed. While symptoms can range from mild to severe, there are ways to lessen the severity. Try the following:
Eliminate all caffeine (including the chocolate some women crave premenstrually).
Avoid polyunsaturated vegetable oils.
Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, drink purified water, and avoid foods high in sodium to help eliminate bloating.
Eat soy foods regularly.
Use only hormone-free meats, poultry, and dairy products.
Do regular aerobic exercise -- 30 minutes of endorphin releasing daily activity that raises your heart rate.
Take 500 mg of black currant oil or evening primrose oil twice a day.
Experiment with dong quai or chaste tree.
Take calcium supplements (1000-1500 mg daily), with half as much magnesium.
Practice breathing exercises.
You may also consider analyzing your symptoms. List the symptoms that bother you most, when you experience them, and if they occur in conjunction with an event, meal, or activity. This can help you anticipate what to expect-and even what to avoid-each month.

Thankfully , I'm past the PMS syndrome and have been since the age of 33!
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful
is all I have to say about it!

However, I do eat healthy, that is until a chocolate candy bar passes my way!  My husband calls me a "health nut", along with other endearing names!

I think if you've had your family get it all out!  But then, in my case it was to the point of emergency!

Good luck girls!

OK for women of all ages today's advice is about Osteoporosis:

Quote:
Tip: Osteoporosis: Avoiding the Risks
About one out of every three postmenopausal women has osteoporosis (loss of bone mass, the bones become porous and fragile). Although the loss of bone mass typically begins around age 30, preventive measures can be helpful regardless of your age. Osteoporosis can be reversed, or its symptoms lessened, by taking certain measures:
Increase your calcium. Nonfat dairy products, dark green vegetables, sardines, and soy products are good sources, as are calcium supplements.
Take vitamin D (400-800 IU) to assist in the absorption of calcium.
Increase weight-bearing activities to promote bone growth. Exercise 30 minutes per day, five days a week.
Quit smoking.
If you drink, consume alcohol in moderation to decrease the chance of bone fractures.
Decrease your sodium intake. A high-sodium diet can be harmful to bone integrity.
Limit caffeine. If you drink more than the equivalent of two cups of coffee per day, try drinking a glass of low- or nonfat milk instead.

anyone here familiar with IBS?  If so, any recommendations for it?  I have it, as does my mother and a few other people in my family
