....and there is nothing I can do.   Angry

Again - it's about my SIL!  He works/makes repairs on the Company vans.  He's good at what he does but....he's more than a little careless with tools, acids, everything - as well as safety for himself.  Just last week, he was filing metal and my daughter told him he had pieces of those filings hanging on his eyelashes - and that he should be wearing protective goggles.  He joked and shined her on.

Well folks, it happened again yesterday but this time it wasn't funny.  He complained to Deb that "something" was in his eye and would she look?  She thought she could see something on the inside of his eyelid and told him he needed to go to emergency - right then.  Typical answer - "awww - I'll just use some Visine".

At 3 f'n o'clock in the morning, he was in so much pain that he drove himself to a hospital ER.  There were a lot of critical cases and he left at 7AM without being seen.

At 9AM Deb drove him to a facility that specializes in eye problems.  During the ride, he began blaming Deborah for his accident.  "Why didn't YOU get me some goggles?  Why don't I have glasses anymore.....and  Lips Sealed Lips Sealed Lips Sealed ......(expletives deleted)"?  Fact is, he's had three new pairs of glasses (so far) this year.  He sits on them, steps on them or loses them.  As far as goggles - they'd disappear too.  What did SHE say back to him?  Nothing!  Why bother.

I just called Deb for progress/update.  The man who is working in her office (while Phil is on vacation,) took off to take Quinn to yet another eye specialist.  A sliver of metal was found and removed from inside the eyelid but....the doctors found a "ring of rust" at the site of the wound.

Can I ask for prayers again, please?  Uh...and if you do, would you ask the Lord to give him some common sense too.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that.  Is his vision going to be impaired or is it going to heal fully?

That's horrible that he would blame someone else for something that was caused by his own stubbornness.  I work with glass at work and should wear gloves, but I'm just as stubborn as him and never do.  I get cuts every now and then, but I'd never blame it on somebody else.

For prayers, its easy, but for common sense...I am afraid it would take more than prayers. Roll Eyes

You have every right to be upset that he blamed her for this, especially after she asked him to go the dr immediately and he refused.  A ring of rust?  Just how long has this thing been in his eyelid?

Oh wings I wish you had mentioned this earlier.  I pray that he will be fine.  The husband of a close friend of mine is a welder and he lost his vision in one eye totally because of an flying piece of metal and he WAS wearing eye protection.

I also pray for Deborah that she will be strong and know that it was not her that caused this problem.  I pray that her husband will recognize this too in due course.

finally why does his company not REQUIRE that they wear protection?  Is it not part of the Workplace Health and Safety provisions in the province of Manitoba?

I pray that this turns out to be a scare only and that the lesson will have been learned.  I understand your anger.

That sliver was in there about 24 hours.  It happened early yesterday afternoon.

I just called Deb - no word yet.  She's in the office dispatching and everything else.  If he's not home by 4 or 4:30PM - I'll need to get the baby from daycare.  But first I'll have to go by the house to get Deb's car with the carseat - then head back to pick him up.

See - the thing is, whenever something goes wrong with that man (which is too often), it causes a ripple effect.

Oh, did I mention this is his "bad" eye he's injured?  I forget the story - but he stuck a screwdriver in it when he was about 16 or so.  That little accident -  Roll Eyes - caused him to have a light brown eye.  He had blue eyes.

Added for addams:  The Company is owned by Deb and Quinn.  He was working out of their garage at the time.

I might mention a couple of years ago when he was working as a welder - he was always getting burned.   The second incident that sent him to the hospital, his boss told him he would be fired - if it happened again - because he wasn't wearing his protective gear.

*shrug*

Common sense?  It's too late for that, I'm afraid, Wingsy!  He needs a keeper.   He almost blinded himself before by his own carelessness, and continues the same behavior, then blames Deb?  Good grief!

K-A!  You asked "what was he thinking?"  That's the problem......he doesn't/can't/won't/is encapable of.  *shrug*

I know Pocket.  He blamed Deb for not making him go to the dentist a couple of months ago - when he broke a molar.  The tooth had cracked wide open and fractured the bone too.   Ewwwwww!   The tooth had been "bothering" Quinn for over a year.

I just got off the phone with Deb - Quinn walked in the front door with a patch over his eye.  She'll call me right back.  Problem is - Quinn is really bad at repeating anything.  She's liable to beat it out of him or call the doctor herself.

And I know he needs a keeper.  I don't know how much longer my daughter will be that "keeper".  She's more stubborn than I (believe it or not).  She'll work on a problem until it's solved - but if it can't.......  Quite frankly, I don't know how much more she can take of this nonsense.

An hour after my daughter's husband arrived home from the hospital and she hadn't called me back - I called.  Quinn answered.

As expected from him, he was jokey and said he was fine.  I asked him about the "rust" spot.  He said they just scraped it out.  I asked him if he was given AB's and he said no - just some eyedrops.

I said to take care and hung up - before I said some things I shouldn't say.   Angry

....this male(notice I did say male and not MAN!) sounds that he is so immature when something happens he blames others.  He needs to grow up first and take responsibility for his OWN actions, not blame others.  As for common sense, until he matures there probably won't be any and he will continue to blame your daughter for all that goes wrong in "HIS" world!  Pray that your grandson takes after your daughter!
