Political/Election Discussion

We are a community made up of Democrats, and Republicans and Libertarians, and Independants, and members who live in countries outside of the United States and have their own opinions on what's going on or should go on.  If we talk much politics, we are bound to disagree and at times offend or hurt each other's feelings.  That's just the sad reality of discussing politics.  With an election coming up, it will only get worse.  Most people feel very personally about their political affiliation and that means personal feelings are tied in, so it's just easy to hurt someone's feelings while stating an opposite opinion, and easy to feel hurt.  I think if we're going to get too much into anything like this we have to all understand that up front and either agree to disagree on stuff like we normally do, like ADULTS, or indivdially agree to not talk about or read about it if we can't. This election is not going to be a quiet or a pretty one, this is going to get ugly and we don't have to get ugly too.

Because this can get heavy at times and becuase there are some people who want to stay away from it, and because the grapevine is a lighthearted section of our community, I think the best thing to do is to create a new sub-forum for Election Discussion, and political discusion outside of a current event that would go in The News, any political discussion can go in there.  The rules are the same as the rest of our site.  Agree or Disagree like adults.  No flaming, and work out your arguments.  Agree to disagree if you can't meet eye to eye.

Cool Cool Cool Rhune, you are so right on this issue.  Each summer I meet with girlfriends that I started first grade with ions ago.  Topics we do not discuss are politics and religion.  Therefore our friendships have remained intact for over 50 years!

That's the whole point of having a separate forum.  You don't HAVE to talk politics if you don't want to.  You can just stay out of that sub forum and not bother with it at all if you so choose. Smiley
