Honestly...have you ever been captivated by the way someone posts that you had a crush on another poster?

Grin, it wasn't in a forum actually, but in an online game.  I was helping to run the game and he was one of my customers.  One night I had a run-in with a drunk player who wanted to cause some problems, and in the middle of it, Izak (my husband), decided he'd had enough of the guy giving me trouble and ran his character into town and killed the other guy's character, and that was basically how we met.  From there we started talking online, and then on the phone, and then met in person when I flew up to Seattle for a weekend.  After that we decided we needed to live in the same city if we wanted this to continue, and we did, so he moved here since I was enjoying my job more than he was his current job.  So, he moved down here and a little over a year later we were married.

I just wanted to add my same advice to the young gal who talked about having a crush recently.  Never hold back and torture yourself with it!  Let them know you are you interested!

Not me, I've been out of that loop for almost 20 years.
My Knight in Shinning Armour rode up in a red ford pick 'em up truck June, 1983!
People who know me well got a real chuckle out of this one, but hey, obviously  I liked it,
married June, 1984. Tongue

Told the doc in the new mercedes to get lost!  Never regretted it for one minute!  Grin

P.S. One of my friends met a guy in a chat room and they've been married for over 3 years.

Say, go for it.  Maybe it is dangerous but so are people you meet face to face!
Life is short!
carpe' diem,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and now!

Rhune you and I have something in common I met Pilar in an AOL chatroom now normally I would feel this is a BAD thing but as we talked over time I was not committing and yes i met and chatted with others but since we were both being open and honest (most arent I would like to add) we formed a bond and a trust and yes a love, a "True Love" that grew and blossomed without SEX. Once we decide to be exclusive we soon moved in together and found not only did our bond grow stronger all the kids treated each other as actual siblings (Pilar had a child same age as one of mine) we were without much effort becoming a family. Pilar proved to be the perfect Mom (My ex was abusive to kids and me) the perfect wife and yes the perfect lover but most of all and most important she became my best friend. Do i recommend these type of relationships NO but i am the exception to the rule as is Rhune. But all in ALL  I hope this answers the question of this thread!

David you must have really had some bad run ins in that AOL chatroom, because I have found that while there are some people who will take advantage of you and are liars, most people are just normal people.  It's like meeting people anywhere else.  Some are going to be great and some are not.  I have met a lot of people in real life that I have known online, through the gaming community, and not just people I was interested in dating, but many good friends as well.  I have found what while someone who is prone to lying will lie more readily online, because they don't have to look you in the eye while they are doing it, people who are not prone to lying actually tend to be more honest online than in real life, for the same reason.  Not having to look you in the eye gives people a comfort zone that often allows them to speak their thoughts and feelings more freely.  If you asked me, I would say that my experience on the net has been 20% bad people and 80% good people.  Meeting and dating people online is a lot like real life, finding a good connection is hard, but it's possible.

The important thing is to listen to your gut.  If you are thinking about meeting someone and they have said anything at all that makes you uncomfortable, then don't meet them.  People who are not ok usually telegraph that.  Listen to your instincts!  The other important thing is never meet anyone alone.  Meet them in a group or come separately to a public place, etc.  In general, just use common sense and listen to what your gut tells you.

Perhaps I chose my words poorly I did say most are not what they seem but I didnt mean to imply that most were heartless liars. I seem to have chose my words poorly again. I agree it is easier to be honest without eye contact but it is also easy to decieve without eye contact. I agree you and I did well with our internet connections but I still feel overall it isnt a good idea but then I based alot of this on seeing the ex wife lie and cheat others by lieing to others online and pretending to be something she was not. So I guess i am biase on this topic but overall my answer to question is still same
