I finally turned in my resignation! Yes, I know I only work 2/3 days a week, but there comes a time when one has to do what he/she wants to do, right?

My husband and I have always wanted to be home together to do the things we want, golf, travel, etc.! We used to laugh and say the biggest thing wrong in our marriage is that one of us had to keep a job, and we just wanted to have fun. He retired almost two years ago and I kept my part time job, why?

Now with my Mom here and in bad health, we both realize that life is so short and the time is now or never to do the things we've been planning.

Mother will needs to be in 24 hour assisted living very soon and I want to spend time with her before she may not even know me at all.

The only way I can make this the very best holiday season for my family is to be home, cooking, shopping, spending time together before we wish we had done something in which we never found time!

Now that I've made this decision, I'm having a hard time mentally letting go of the job and thinking about my Mother living somewhere with strangers! This is heartbreaking to both of us.

Have any of you had these thoughts when you gave a resignation? I just pray we do the right thing for her as these decisions are made.

I don't know why your thread got so far down - I almost missed it. So....

I absolutely think you did the right thing. Nothing is more important than a marriage or family. I can speak to this subject because I've been there and back - twice!

It's not easy to give up your job because it took you away from the house and you probably had fun too. I had a fulltime job when I lived in Muskogee and on every day or two off - I needed to drive to my parent's home in Henryetta to do for them. Towards the end, I rather resented that and after 2 1/2 years - I had to move to Hnyt.

The whole situation (job) was taken out of my hands when Daddy's health started barreling downhill. Daddy passed 6/7/02. And I think you know the rest of it.

If you go to that website, and check out all the amenities - maybe that will begin to ease your mind about whatever choice you make. Do a little research online for your area. I'm pretty sure that in your area, these types of places are going to be more expensive. But and however, knowing that she's safe and looked-after 24/7 - is priceless.

Mama lives in an Efficiency Apt and that runs about $850 p/m. She pays extra for housekeeping (which includes laundry). I had a different phone service installed for her so she could call long-distance. Cable TV, electricity, water, etc., is included. She can call the grocery store and order her food and have it delivered. Mama could go to the diningroom and mingle, but she won't. She could go walk about in the gardens too, but she won't.

I think you're making smart decisions based on your situation. When I had my first son, I gave up my job, because my husband and I decided we would rather live poorly and raise our own children than live more comfortably and have someone else do it. Luckily, my company rehired me 3 months later, as a telecommuter so in the end I found a way to have both, but even if that hadn't happened, I'd have quit and stayed home anyway. So, I understand giving up your job for family.

Thanks Wingsy, for your support. We've been in and out of the same boat for some time now.

I was off for 10 days and did not want to go back yesterday, wanted to run around and do errands with my husband, got home and Mother had eaten cookies for the day! This won't do!
So until we can do something different with her, this is best for all of us.
Plus on the day after I work I'm just tired! This body does not have the energy that used to be inside it!
