Amber Alert

Thanks to This website and the Amber ALert across the top of the page, I have learned of an abduction in my own city.

Here are the details, I have learned from www. pulse24.com

Quote:
Where is Dong-Yue Zhang? The nine-year-old girl who goes by the name “Cecilia” disappeared from her bedroom early Monday morning, and police confirm there’s reason to fear she’s been abducted. An Ontario-wide Amber Alert has been issued for the child, and authorities are asking anyone who sees her to call 911 immediately.

Her distraught parents discovered her missing around 8:30am Monday, when they entered her Whitehorn Crescent bedroom in the Finch-404 area. Police won’t confirm earlier reports of a broken window, but will only say there’s evidence that an entrance at the back of the home has been tampered with. “It looks like this house may have been entered during the night, that’s all I’m going to say at this point,” a cautious Detective Sgt. Dave Perry told reporters. “We do have evidence of foul play in the house.”

Investigators confirm the child isn’t the kind to run away. “We’re very concerned, because this is not usual for this young girl,” Perry adds. The child, who attends grade 4 at Seneca Hill Public School and goes by the name Cecilia, is described as:

4’11”,
70 lbs.,
Shoulder length brown hair, with blonde highlights,
Brown eyes,
Good teeth.

Police have set up a temporary command post on the scene, and are conducting a door-to-door search for any signs or clues. And they’re begging anyone who’s seen her to call them. Because the more time that passes, the colder the trail grows.

I was just reading this on the Amber Alerts site and clicked over to see your message. Sad  I sure hope they find this little girl alive and ok.

I have noticed that 9 times out of ten or more, the abduction is a non-custodial parent.  Only a few have been the scary kind like this.  Let's hope she comes home safe.

She is still missing.   Cry

Here is a list of streetproofing tips that has been posted at pulse24.com and is taken from Childfind Ontario:

Quote:
There’s a lot of things parents need to teach their children – how to tie their shoes, what their address is, how to share.

But perhaps nothing is more important than this: how to save their own lives. With the apparent abduction of a nine-year-old Toronto girl, Child Find Ontario is reminding parents that the most important lesson they can leave their offspring is that people are both good and bad. And until you know which is which, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Here’s a list of streetproofing tips the agency suggests you follow to make sure your kids are protected. In this case, a little knowledge can prevent a dangerous thing.

Teach your children to trust their feelings, and that they have the right to say "no", even to an adult.

Keep your child's fingerprints, a current physical description and a full face photograph (like their school photograph) in a safe, accessible place.

Teach your children their last name, phone number, address, and where you work.

Teach your children how to dial the Operator "O" or 911 and what to say.

Never leave children under the age of 12 unattended at home.

Know where your child is, and let them know where you are, so they learn by example.

Have a list of the first and last names, phone numbers and addresses of your children's friends. Get to know their friends and be part of their activities.

Don't put your child's first name on clothing, knapsacks, bicycles or toys.

Teach your children to avoid talking to strangers and to trust their instincts.

Listen when your children tell you that they don't want to be with someone, and find out why.

Be alert to an adult or teenager paying too much attention to your child.

Tell your children that if anything ever happens to them or you, you will look for them until you find them, no matter what.

Identify safe houses in the neighbourhood (friends, neighbours) where they can go in an emergency or if they're frightened.

Practice safe walking routes to school, to the park, to friends' homes.

Don’t leave your children wandering in a mall, or in the toy section of a store. Teach them to ask a cashier or security guard for help if they are lost – and never to leave the store.

You should have a secret code word with your children that only you and they know. If someone tells your children that they were asked by you to pick up the children, explain they’re not to go unless the person gives them the correct code word.
