Wednesday is learning how to write

I am fascinated to see that my daughter has suddenly embraced the concept of writing.  She is so excited and proud.

This past weekend she said she wanted to keep a journal and wrote a whole page!

It's amazing.  Some words she knows the spellings and vast majority she is spelling phonetically.  You can hear her sounding them out to herself and sometimes asking me what letter is "yuh" (Y).

The first line was "DR MOM AND DAD U R GRAT"

I am so amazed and that was a very endearing first sentence.

The rest got a little harder to read.  Nearly everything she writes includes a PS  which makes me laugh.

She told me that she is the only person in her class who can write (which I don't believe for a minute) and that her teacher said she should just move up to grade 1 (in a smiling kind of way - she said of course she does not want to do that).   Her self esteem is flying high and I am so proud of her.

....as well you should be!  Take it from an only child, don't make your expectations unreasonable, let her go on her own steam, right Wingsy?
Give her the wings, then let her fly them on her own course!  Cool Cool Cool

How exciting, Wednesday is a special little lady in my book.  Wink  I can just see her holding that pencil and sounding out those words.  What a special thing it is to put our thoughts on paper and what a special thing it will be for her to read this journal in a few years (after she has become a Pulitzer prize winner in literature).
Tell her that when she is ready to write letters, Auntie Irish would love a pen-pal from Canada.
