My dad

Thank you to all of you who IM'd me messages of support and as you know today we received Dad's test results.

My Dad has a small tumour on his kidney and he will be going in for surgery to have it removed on December 29th.  The doctor has told him that the tumour is very small and that there is a 95% rate of cure based on the information they have available presently.

They do not think they will have to remove the entire kidney.  Because of the location of the tumour they will try to remove only part of the kidney which apparently is possible in this case.  The surgery is not easy and very painful afterwards because of all the muscle they must cut through. He must be in hospital for one week after the surgery and then home for further recovery.

It is my understanding that chemotherapy and radiotherapy cannot be used to treat this type of cancer.

I will let you know more as I learn more.

So while the diagnosis is not good the prognosis appears to be good.  Of course it is a long time to wait until the surgery date.

Thanks everyone for your support.

My post disappeared...... Huh

I just wanted to thank you for keeping us posted on your dad's condition.  It's a shame the doctor isn't getting him into surgery sooner.

Many prayers and love to yoo and yours, darlin'.

I'm sorry to hear it's such a difficult surgery, but I'm relieved to hear the success/cure rate is so high.

I'm sorry the news about your Dad isn't better, but it sounds like the prognosis is good.  Thank you for posting, I woke up this morning thinking "this is the day addams finds out about her Dad's test results".  Your Dad and all of his loved ones are in my prayers.

thanks everyone.  It seems that it is very fortunate they found this when they have.  thank goodness for MRI's.

The Canadian health care system is paid for by everyone's taxes but the waits are difficult.

My dad's overall health is not that great and I pray that the surgery will not cause other complications.  the prognosis re his kidney looks good and I am very thankful for this.  Tongue

Addams, I hope for the best results for your Dad.  The surgery sounds painful, but I hope he gets good meds and heals fast.  My best to you and your Dad and all your family.

((((((((((((Addams)))))))))))

I hope the surgery goes well.  I will think of you and your family.

A surgery during the Hollidays is a bit sad, but sooner the better and if thats the only available time the hospital has, theres no other choice but to wait. ( I wont even start on the wait in our health system...)

We went through something similar last Xmas, as my father had a prostate cancer and his surgery was on Dec. 18th.  Almost a year later now hes doing fine, and he did not receive chemio/radiotherapy either.

I am sending you and Dad a lot of positive thoughts, strenghts and love.  Tongue
