Early BAH HUMBUG ! ! !

This is a venting thread......................sorry, but I've had it already and it is only 10:40 a.m. on December 1st.  As many of you know, I have been running myself ragged trying to help care for my parents, keep my own household going, and maintain my sanity.  Yesterday I asked Mr. I to get all of the Christmas "stuff" down from the attic.  I thought, while I had a chance, I would get started on the decorating this morning.  A few years ago we bought a new tree, it is beautiful, but it takes forever to assemble and shape.  I worked on it last evening and got it all ready to put the lights and decorations on first thing this morning.  This is the only day this week that I don't have something to do for my parents.  I woke up ready to play elf, I even had a little Christmas spirit.  I checked each strand of lights before I put them on the tree and they worked fine.  As I added strands, I continued to check to make sure they were all working.  I finished and plugged the whole thing in and..................................you guessed it a strand in the middle of the tree is not working.  Now I'm at a stand still until I can get to town to buy some more lights.  So much for getting that project finished this morning.  Angry

I hope this isn't a preview of the entire month of December.  Sad

I suggest that you start a new family tradition.  The middle light is not lit in the interests of conservation.  It is part of your new self identity.

I bet the tree looks beautiful.

Ok, here goes my bit of help on this sad situation you are having with the tree.
Did you plug ALL of the strands together?  If so, this will make them burn out!
Plug only no more than 3 strands of light together.

There is an extention cord for trees that goes all the way up the tree and hook onto the bottom of the top pice of the tree.

*Maybe this is too late to help you out, but I have many years of experience with this, since I have decorated for other people until it hurt my joints so much, stopped doing any for other three years ago.  I'm not trying to be a know it all, but do know about this subject!

If I can help you further, send me and Im and I'll give you my home phone number.

Good luck!

P.S.  If all else fails, pitch it out and go buy a new pre-lit tree!

However, I do like Addams bit of suggestion!

Also, maybe it is just the fuse of the light stand, at one of the ends, and I cannot remember which end (no surprise!) there is an itty bitty door, it slides open and you can try replacing the fuse, for extra fuses are in each light string.
Good luck!  Grin

Dayadgummit IL!  You're going to run yourself into a physical and emotional ditch, like I did.

I'm begging you to please check to see if some of your running around can be done by a company like my daughter's does.  Like for his dialysis, her company picks up (many a day) clients, delivers them where they need (by wheelchair, usually) to be for treatment and comes back to deliver them home.  Etc. Etc. Etc.  Their service runs about 16-18 hours per day, 7 days a week.

I'm so worried about you, my dear friend.  We all just want it to be easier for you - and we know our parents health can't be "turned around" at this point.

BTW - how is your mom's legs healing?  How is she doing?  Blessings and prayer ever coming.

OK, IL, how did the Christmas decorating go yesterday?  Did you get it done?  Throw out the tree?  Start all over?  Sure hope you found the culprit that would not light and all is well!  Grin

The tree is up and completely lit.  Cool  When Mr. I got home yesterday he came to my rescue and took the offending strand of lights off and worked his magic on them.  I put the ornaments on yesterday evening and finished with the beaded garland tonight.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions Luci.  Addams, your idea about conservation cracked me up.  Thanks for the sympathy Rhune.  And, finally, Wings, I know what you are saying, but I'm just not ready to give up yet.........when I get the time I'll send you a long PM about what I'm feeling.  My parents have always been loving and supportive and I feel like I owe them all of the support and love I can give at this point in their lives.  Mother's leg is healing, but she did fall again and hurt her arm a couple of weeks ago, thank God she didn't reinjure the leg.  I'll try to send that PM soon.

Il, so glad your tree is "up and running", have no doubt it looks wonderful!

Also, I am so sorry that somewhere in the past posts I've missed your concern about your parents health.  As you know from the posts, I've been caught up in my own troubles!  Embarassed
Good luck to you and to them for their health problems to be healing.

I do hope they both are better and can have a wonderful Christmas Holiday with you and your family.   Tongue
