Update on my Dad after his Biopsy Surgery

well it's after 5 PM and since I had no word I finally got hold of my brother in law after work.  He said that Dad is resting in his room and he's OK after the surgery and "it went well".  But no other details.

Bro-in-law and my sister live in the same city as my parents so they are going to the hospital tonight to visit and will call me afterwards.  Dad is supposed to be able to come home tomorrow.

I will keep you updated as I learn more.    Crossing my fingers that they have identified the source of the other cancer cells.

The waiting for you and everyone has been awful.  I'm praying they'll have results and resolutions by tonight.  I'm praying he'll have a good night and that you rest well too, hon!

Thank you so much for keeping us updated as well as you have.

You are loved!

Addams, I'm missing something here...............what's going on?  Have I missed a post somewhere?  I haven't been reading every thread like I used to.  The last I knew your Dad was scheduled for surgery on December 29th and I haven't heard anything since.  Have they found something new?  My prayers continue for your dad and the rest of the family.

Lass, dad had to have futher biopsies because he still had cancer cells in his urine and they had to find the source.  Last night he called me to tell me that, in addition to his kidney tumor, he has bladder cancer.

Dad was in the hospital last Tuesday (ahem and yes my parents didn't call to tell me until last night - saturday and no my sister didn't call and tell me either when she knew dad had been in the hospital.  sheesh)

Anyways Dad did not recover well from his biopsies.  He started to bleed and then got a urinary tract blockage.  We was immediately taken to emergency by my mom (instead of calling 911) and she took him to the wrong emerg (seems there is a kids emerg and an adults ) but they took him in anyways because he was in bad shape with loss of blood etc.

He was put through more loops that I don't even want to think about. he's had many terrible tests and stuff.  He's having a very hard time right now.

He's home resting again but sadly they told him the biopsy results when he was in the hospital.  He has bladder cancer.  He was told it is a cis bladder cancer but does not know or understand what that means.  I am going to research it today.

Also he was told the bladder cancer is not deep rooted which means they can try to treat it.

Personally this is not good news.  My dad is not in the best of health to begin with.

I know however that he will do his very best to be a survivor since my youngest sister is expecting her first child.

He has not told my two sisters yet.  We discussed it and he will.  I think they need to know.

On the good news front my sister's gestational diabetes, to the surprise of even her doctor, has settled down with her following her doctor's strict instructions.  Because she eats very little protein it seems this was a possible contributing factor.  She is a vegetarian since she was 8 years old and cannot stand the thought of eating meat.  So bless her soul for eating some now anyways.  I think she nearly gags but perhpas it is better than a needle.  LOL.

On a humours note.  When dad was in the hospitla mom made a bad slip of the tongue and instead of asking if they had the biopsy results she asked if they had the autopsy results.  ROFLMAO.  Anyways mom and dad have been laughing about this all week.

For Christmas I have bought dad book audiotapes to listen to - with humour.  I hope that will help.

It's going to be a long several months since dad will first have his partial nephrectomoy on December 29th and then once he recovers from that he will be going in for chemotherapy for his bladder cancer.

Please say lots of prayers everyone.  Thank you and hugs to you all.  Tongue

Addams, I hope your Dad's surgery and treatment go well and are effective.    It's hard to watch a parent's struggle with illness.  I'm glad they are trying to keep a sense of humor.
