6.5 earthquake hit the central California

(CNN) -- A magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit the central California coast about 11:15 a.m. (2:15 p.m. ET), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter was located about 7 miles from San Simeon, 240 miles north of Los Angeles, the USGS reported.

There was no immediate report of damage from the quake, but park rangers in San Simeon have ordered evacuation of the Hearst Castle, the palatial home built by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, a worker at the attraction's gift shop told CNN.

Just heard about this. Thank goodness there appears to be no injuries.

There have been 3 deaths reported so far and many injuries.  Quite a few bldgs collapsed with people inside and they're digging as fast as they can.

Several areas are still without power.

I felt the quake today and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Having been through 2 big quakes, my heart goes out to those in San Simeon and the outlying area.

Thank God you're ok QT.  Last I heard three people have died.  Lots of electrical outages and what a mess that is.!  The aftershocks continue to be a thorn in the side.  The 1994 Northridge earthquake had another after shock last year.  Amazing..........

I was in the San Fernando earthquake of 1971 (6.5)  and the Loma Prieta of 1989 (6.9).  The damage and loss of life was so more severe because of the heavily populated areas.  Me and my family are fine, so no worries everyone.

When we were in Acapulco on our honeymoon in 1984, we were having dinner and felt the groundd literally turn under our feet and the light fixture sway!  What a horrible feeling!
Mr L asked me if I bumped the table, I asked the waiter if that was an earthquake, he replied it was!
I can still remember the feeling and also can just imagine how horrible a large one would be, very sad for those people who live with this constantly.
They expect more will happen in the next few days.
We pray NOT!

Reichen and his brother flew me out to LA yesterday to watch the taping of Drew Cary episode that Reichen will guest star in.  I didn't feel the quake, but Reichen said on the set of Drew Cary, the floor was swaying, the lights and stuff overhead was swaying and he lost his balance.  At first he thought he was dizzy and was going to go back to his trailor, when someone said that it was an earthquake.
The aftershocks keep coming and I pray they will be able to rescue anyone that is trapped in the rubble.

.....Didn't you love being on the set and seeing what all goes on behind the scenes?  And folks wonder why Mr L and I enjoy being extras Huh  We are treated wonderfully!

Let us know when his guest segment will be on.  It is definitely understandable why he is getting film jobs!  He is one handsome guy and I know you are so proud of him.  Carpe' diem Mum.

Back to the Earthquake, we pray the aftershocks are over for all of the people in California.

WOW!  I remember that one as if it were this morning.  My folks lived in Sylmar at the time and we lived in Santa Barbara.  I called my folks immediately to tell them "we" had just had an earthquake and everything was AOK.  Was I ever shocked.

As the sun rose, they could barely see the mountain because of horrendous landslides.  They could see (later) that the brand new Olive View Hospital and the older Veteran's Hospital were destroyed.

I thought it strange that when I called, I had to let the phone ring at least 20 times.  The problem was that the phone had fallen and debris covered it - they couldn't find it right away.

The other earthquakes you mentioned QT - I remember them all too well.  But for now, I'm just thankful you're ok.

I haven't been in touch with the news in the last couple of days.  I had no idea this had happened.  Thank you for keeping us up to date

My prayers are with these families.
