People are complaining on how long the war is taking but consider this:

It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch  Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.

It took less time to find Saddam's sons in Iraq than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sunk at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!!!

Man, our military is GREAT!

I have no complaint with our military or the job they are doing.  I am disappointed in the government's decison to keep those fine people over there for so long in such hostile conditions without giving them wartime pay (because he declared the war over oficially), and without going into too much specifics, I am disappointed in things over there not being resolved better/differently in a political/governmental  fashion, again no complaints with the military and how they have handled themselves over there.

Great post Navy!  Cool

People in todays "instant" society have a difficult time with anything that doesn't happen RIGHT NOW.  They are so use to instant gratification in every other area of their lives so they just have no patience when things aren't settled all nice and neatly within some quick little time span.

I'm no different sometimes.  I have friends and relatives over there and I shudder each time I hear on the news that some brave soldier has been killed.  I don't want to see any of them hurt or killed.  But at the same time, I understand why they are there and more importantly, I understand that we can't just throw a little money at them and get on the planes and leave, as much as my heart aches for the ones who are in harms way.  Let's face it, the soldiers are treading water while the politicians try to shore up the country and restore some semblemce of a government.  It's definitely an uphill fight, trying to teach government and respect to people who sometimes don't seem to have much respect for life or themselves.

Can we do it?  Can we teach people who have been stepped on by someone all through history, to appreciate and embrace the concept of democracy?  I actually doubt it.  But what I do believe is that we can (and should) give the GOOD people of Iraq, a CHANCE to better their country.  Do I know how it's going to turn out?  No, and I don't think many do but  I have faith in my government.  If there is one lesson that we have learned, it's the lesson of Viet Nam.  Our government is not going to keep our men and women of the armed forces over there for any longer than is absolutely necessary.  Will more soldiers die?  Most likely, but the alternative is that (and this is the part that many people just can't seem to grasp)  the terror, bombings, and violence we see on our nightly news over there, has a much higher probability of happening on OUR streets if we don't try to do something about it over THERE.  For most of our citizens, that hollow feeling in our stomachs we felt as we saw those towers fall, is long gone.  I have said it before and I will keep saying it, if we don't fight terror and the sick minds that have NO respect for life OVER THERE, one day it will be on OUR shores.  Yes, more will most likely die fighting for our country, and there will undoubtedly be more Monday morning quarterbacking by many.  But their fight and their loss will have not been in vain.  They will have died fighting for us, our children and our children's children and the future safety of this country.  Freedom is never free.

What's really the disgrace are the innocent hundreds who die for nothing each day on our highways.  Our society has grown acustomed to that.  That's just the cost of doing business in America each day.  We have grown numb to those victims.  But I would wager if every fatal accident anywhere in the U.S. got the same daily press and talley figures that the loses in Iraq get, and it was reported day after day after day, there would be the same hue and cry.  Citizens, politicians, and wags far and wide would wail and moan and demand that something be done to end the slaughter.

Although it is easy to do, I will not second guess or Monday morning quarterback policies and decisions of my government.  Why?  Because I don't have access to all the information that they have.  I will put my trust and my faith in my democratic government leaders to do what they feel is in the best interest of our nation.    May God Bless our brave men and women of the Armed Forces, may God Bless our President and give him the insight to do what is right and may God Bless America.
