Rhune, Reset, thanks so much..........

.....for your reccommendation of the Laptop I recently purchased.  Since the holidays are over and the big rush is past, I've been playing on it.  Even with the keys closer, it is awesome!
So nice to have it downstairs when I don't want to come upstairs and check out information or email friends.

Last night I put in Clay Aiken's CD and listened to it and the sound system in the Laptop is unbelievable!  We had no idea it would have this great of sound system.  Then I put in a DVD, "Pirates of the Carribean" and was also blown away by the clarity of the picture/ stereo sound.

We've thought we would leave it home this weekend and not take it with us but, hmmm, it is a 4-5 hour drive to get  there!    So maybe...........

Thanks so much for all your help, both of you!  Grin Kiss

....making typos again, but then I need a manicure

I'm about 95% certain she went with the Dell.  You're very welcome Luci, I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Glad you're happy with it.  Don't forget a power inverter and a cassette adapter for the 5-hour ride.

These will make your laptop even more enjoyable.  The cassette adapter allows you to use the stereo system in the car for your movie/MP3 sound.  The cassette adapter plugs into the headphone jack on the laptop and into the cassette player in your car at the other end (There are little FM transmitters available if you don't have a cassette player in your car).   With the power inverter you can just plug in your laptop power cord.

This is exactly how we did it for years until we got a car with the DVD system built-in.  Also from experience...you might want to avoid movies with a lot of motion in them (TopGun, Italian Job...etc), my daughter needs fresh air if there is too much motion on the screen.  My son, wife and I all have no problems with it.

Good luck with your new laptop!

Yes, Addams, I did get the Dell they reccommended.  It is an Inspiron 1100.  I'll check it again when I get downstairs and if it is incorrect, I'll let you know.
I also purchased a laptop carrying case, extra battery and a headset to listen to all these great sounds.
They even sent me a $100 rebate check back!

Reset, with the battery, would I still need a power inverter Huh

I won't get the cassette adapter for I already have more technical than this brain can handle, know what I mean Roll Eyes Shocked Undecided?

Thanks for the info and taking extra time
to answer my questions.  Kiss

Reset, is the power inverter for the car, like in the cigarette lighter place?  ...just askin', haven't had time to go to the site you listed yet.

Would I just have to have it since we have a back-up battery?
thanks

And Addams, I did purchase the Optical Mouse, using my finger just got old quick! Roll Eyes

Yes, it gives you a 120VAC outlet in your car for all sorts of things.  With it, you don't need the 2nd battery while driving.  It also eliminates the need to power off to switch batteries.

The cassette adapter will connect your laptop to the stereo system in your car.  Even the best sounding laptops tend to be drowned out by the ambient noise level of highway driving.  It also lets the driver listen to the movie that the passenger(s) is watching.

Thanks, I'll go to the nearest Wal-Mart (2 miles from our home) and check it  out tomorrow.

As for th4e motion thing, know what you mean for I have and can grt very motion sick in a car.  Guess we'd better stick to the sound while driving.
By the way, how do you like the DVD Player in your auto?  Convenient, yes?
Just guessing you have an Escalade or Navigator, right?

Nope, nothing that fancy here, but it is an SUV.  We've had a Honda Pilot since the 2nd day they were for sale in 2002.  We do love it.  I have to admit I use the DVD player even when driving locally for peace in the car.  Movies don't bother me as much as a lot of the kids TV shows these days.  I now understand why my mother never wanted me watching "The Three Stoges".

Yep, same here!  We triede a avigator in the summer, but Mr. L still feels he needs a truck, since there is work to be done on the rentals nd he couldn't even carry a ladder in n SUV!  So back to a truck he went, a great truck, Dodge Aries, 4 dr, and inside just like a car!  DVD Player, etc., so we enjoy the DVD whichever auto we're driving.

You're so righyt about understanding Mothers and "The Three Stooges!"  There is just something about noisey kids and more noice, right?

Plus age and time passes and we older ones get used to the peace and quiet Grin

Our outfitter sites are selling some cool dvd players for cars that you can install into any vehicle.  I was looking at one the other day that you seatbelt into the backseat middle belt and then it extends out far enough for people in the back seat to watch the screen, but it's all belted in securely.
