Please be aware that a new virus is circulating through e-mail.  It is going by multiple names depending on which antivirus software you are using.  The three common names are Mydoom, Novarg, and Mimail.R.

This virus is spreading through e-mail as an attachment and my appear to be from someone you know.  Please do not open attachments sent with e-mail you were not expecting, or from people you do not normally have e-mail contact with.

E-mails produced by this virus may have a subject line that is garbled or from the following list:

test
hi
hello
Mail Delivery System
Mail Transaction Failed
Server Report
Status
Error

More information about the virus can be found at:

http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

or

If I always wear protection when I am online, do I still have to go to the site?

Threat level:  Category 4, Severe (scale of 1-5)
Type:
 Worm

What is W32.Novarg.A@mm and how does it affect me?

W32.Novarg.A@mm is an encrypted mass-mailing worm that arrives as an attachment, with either a .exe, .scr, .zip, or .pif extension.

The worm creates a mass mailing of itself, which may:

1. Clog mail servers or degrade network performance
2. Impact system performance

This worm is currently undergoing analysis. The record at Security Response will be updated as information becomes available.

To read more about the W32.Novarg.A@mm, please click here.

This is a good time to remind everyone on broadband that a simple router will protect you from getting many computer viruses.  So will a firewall.  I am gonna bump up my protecting your computer thread again...

It blocks most worm type viruses from reaching your computer, because they hit the router instead and have nowhere to go, nothing to infect, and never are able to actually reach your computer.

I too recieved an email with "mail delivery transaction" in the subject line.  Mine listed the Bagle virus.  McAfee says that I do not have this virus, so I guess someone tried to get me.  Does anyone know who NanaB is?  Guilty person, please stand up. Wink
I am at this minute downloading Rhune's zone alarm.  Thanks for the heads up Rhune.
