A self-described "indie-vaudeville conceptual art-rock pop band," the Trachtenburg trio consists of nerdy father Jason, 33, who alternates between piano and guitar while singing lead vocals; adorable 9-year-old daughter Rachel, who plays drums and sings; and pigtailed mother Tina, 38, who operates the carousel slide projector and designs the band's colorful costumes. The eccentric act has fast become a cult favorite on the strength of its entertaining shtick and catchy pop-rock compositions inspired by old slide collections culled from estate sales and thrift stores.

Formed three years ago in Seattle, the group quickly became a popular local attraction before moving to New York City last year. Since then, the Trachtenburg Family has held down sold-out residencies at hip Manhattan and Los Angeles performing arts spaces while playing high-profile gigs like Bonnaroo and SXSW and appearing on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" -- all as an unsigned act, no less. Widely praised in the press, the band even has its own "Spotlight" section on the Comedy Central Web site and recently shot a pilot for VH1.

EEG just THINKING about them cracks me up.  I've not even listened to them.  What a fun thing to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon.  Think I will do that.   They were in Birmingham in January at a club called Zydeco.   A co-worker turned me on to the site. Grin
