I think I will email some picts of our chicken houses to Rhune.  They are much different than the operations that they are showing on the news.  The people who have been having problems are selling their chickens live in a market.  Those chickens are also running around on the ground, or in a yard.  I'm not at all saying that we aren't at risk, but we take huge steps to help insure that our chickens aren't in contact with people who have those kind of operations.  For that matter, those of us who have our kind of operation do not visit each others operations.  We all try very hard to keep our farms as restricted as possible.  Hopefully, you will be able to see from the picts, just how enclosed our chickens are from outside influences.  Some of these picts are poor quality, they were taken in very low light.

Chick's chickens live better than some people!
Aren't the way you raise them called free range?

No, free range means that they are free to go outside.  Ours are very closed in.  They really have a pretty sad existence.  On the other hand, the farms who claim to be "free range" actually only have about 5% or less of their birds that do go outside.  The chickens prefer to be in the warm house, where the feed and water is.  I always say they are stupid, but maybe they aren't totally dumb! Wink

I think Rhune is working on getting the picts here for me.
Thanks early, Rhune Smiley

Damn Chick, That's a lot of chicken nuggets!!  Grin

I can just imagine that with that FLU going around, the sound of all that sniffling and sneezing in the henhouse is deafening!  I can't do much (after my recent economic mercy mission down to Florida and South Carolina), but I can send you a couple of boxes of kleenex for the henhouse.  At least those little birds would be able to cover their beaks when they cough and sneeze!  Wink

But first you gotta' call off those, . . . . ahem, I hate to use the pun . . . . . . "bumper-chewing dogs" I see in that first picture!

OK, I admit it.  I'm a baaaad, baaaad man.  Grin

oh... what a number of chicks you've got... i hope that they won't be harmed by the flu... it would be very costly if it does... like what happened in vietnam and korea....

i'm still glad that the flu have not yet entered our borders... Only the Philippines and I think Malaysia and Brunei are the countries here in South East Asia that is not yet infiltrated by the virus... I hope the flu would just leave...  because... it is affecting the economy of the region...

Thanks Rhune!  Lol, yes there are a lot of Chicks there, about 28,000 in each house.  Those were 2 weeks old, and at their ugly, between down and feather's, stage.  I'll run down in a little bit, and take a pict. of 2 day old babies, they are much much sweeter.   You're right Luci, they do live very well.  It sure would be nice if they would all designate (sp?) one place to go potty though!  Nice on my shoes at least. Wink
Omg Addams, it would be my dream come true for y'all to see the farm.  Hopefully, EVERYONE can come!  Cheesy

Bumper, My car is thankfully locked up in the garage, and the Bumper chewing dogs, can't smell it anymore!
