The Ladies Lounge

Quote Quote Modify Modify

Don't you ladies think we all need a lounge to come to, put up our feet and discuss anything that comes to our mind?  Well, so do I!
If it is gardening to glamour, cooking to cleaning,  sewing to shopping. babies to books, husbands to housework, we should have a place to come to and have girl talk.

There is nothing that a few women cannot find an answer, give an opinion or come up with an ultimate solution!

Ok ladies, come on it, let's talk about it and lend support,  find a sloution or just put it in file #13.

Who is first?

I'll jump in... Ok I'll take a look at the topics you listed first..

"gardening to glamour, cooking to cleaning,  sewing to shopping. babies to books, husbands to housework"

Gardening... I think I have that pretty much under control. I had to place a large fence around my raised garden beds to keep the groundhog and deer out and after I did that I have had no more problems. Dealing with drought, a yard full of huge trees that shade most all good garden spots are the only gardening problems I have now.

Glamor... I do not and never have tried to keep up with fashions or make up or hair designs. I do not wear any makeup  at all, I have never colored my hair and I wear what is comfortable and that I like and don't give a thought to what the latest trend in fashon is.

Cooking.... I love to cook, in fact I hate eating out. I especially love cooking with all natural ingredients and fresh foods that are in season.  I cook most everything we eat from scratch.

Cleaning.... what is that? Oh you mean hiding your junk when friends or relatives stop in for a visit?  I can do that!

Sewing.... Yup, can do that. I have a lovely sewing machine and can make most any article of clothing from a pattern. I don't make my own clothes now as it is cheaper to buy them used at a thrift shop anyway. I do make my own drapes and curtains and pillows. I can sew, threading a needle is my biggest problem now for mending.

Shopping.... HATE it with a passion. I have learned to be a combat shopper. I can race into any store, grab what I went in for and get out in 5 min or less. if there are lines at the checkouts, I'm out. I could walk past my own mother in any store and not see her, I do not avert my eyes, don't want to be distracted by things in any store I don't need or can't afford.  I have a shopping disorder. I hate to spend money...*sigh*

Babies...... Love um, had 2, baby time now way long gone, waiting for grandchildren now. Will be a very long wait.

Books.... addicted to them, can't bear to throw any away. Every book is a dear freind. I have large storage containers filled with books stored in my attic. I have probably every book I owned as a child, all books my 2 boys owned, all the books I purchased, or got as gifts or bought second hand lovingly stored, or displayed on booshelves. My dream home would have every wall a built in book case and I would arravnge them much like a library with a childrens section, a mystery section.. you get the drift. I'm a bookaholic. There is no treatment however.

Husbands... I'll keep the one I have thank you, don't need several. I have kept this one for 33 1/2 years and I have him pretty well trained. Or perhaps he trained me, who knows?

Housework... (see cleaning above)

Wow, that's a long list.  I'll comment on one or two.

I don't "garden" any more.....not since I almost picked up a copperhead while trying to clean out a flower bed.  I love house plants.....but they do better on the porch, so they should be called porch plants.  I plant my flowers in containers.

I sew.....this last year, I finally bought a serger, and it saved a lot of time on some curtains I made.   I enjoy sewing for the house more than for myself.

I cook most nights.....but I enjoy a meal out once in a while, too.  Baking is a luxury my figure cannot enjoy.

I read constantly,  and always have at least one book started.     While waiting for doctor's appointments, etc., I'm always occupied, and much happier than my husband who has a "wait" problem.

Sometimes I love shopping, other times I hate it.  It depends on my arthritis and what I'm shopping for.

We've been married most of our lives, so it's fortunate that my husband and I enjoy each other's company......it'll be 49 years this year.

I still love Survivor, but am "off" most of the other reality shows.   The only other one I loved was Amazing Race.  I'm even a little jaded about American Idol.    Too many of the contestants are mouthy and disrespectful when the judges judge them.

Glamour??  At my age, I go for comfort FIRST.

Great to see you jumping in here"!"  Now we can discuss anything, doesn't have to be just the things I mentioned.
We ladies do have diverse interests, right?

Seaglass, may we come to your house for dinner?  Sounds good to me, for I don't know many people who start from scratch anymore.  I love to cook but sometimes in the interest of speed I take the shortcut.  Love Love to make desserts!

Sew?  My Mother was a professional seamtress all of my life.  I can, but would rather not, have to take out a seam and to me it is ruined and I'm ready to throw it in a box and quit!

Shopping?  I do not like to shop either.  My Mother used to take me downtown Dallas and we HAD to check out every department in the store.  Guess that marked me!  I also make a list and get in and get out fast.  Long line?  I hunt up a clerk and try to convince them to open up another register or leave!

Glamour?  Well the older I get the more comfortable I want to be!  Even took hairpieces on the cruise so I would be presentable with little effort!  Color?  Yep, can't stand the idea of  not being blonde, so I go through it every few weeks.   I would let it go grey, but believe it or not, I have very few grey hairs in my head!  Someday?
As for fashion, at my age I do think low riding hip hugging jeans would not be too proper for a Grandmother! Roll Eyes

As for housework, I hate it but do it!  Since Mother is here we do have two ladies that come onMonday and do a great job.  Husband says don't let them quit, for I do have back problems and he will do the vaccuuming, so to have them to stay is his ultimate purpose.

Husbands, wouldn't trade him for the world.  Say no more, 20 glorious wonderful years and we hope we can have that many more.

Babies?  They are OK, but right now I'm/we're babied out!  After having 10 grandchildren in 12 years, we've had our limit, sort of like fishing!  We love all of them and enjoy them, just do not want any more, but who knows..................... Roll Eyes

Books?  I love to read.  Give me ana interesting book and I'm gone.  I'm in all the dangerous and foreighn places and can really put myself in so many travels in a book.  I keep them also!  Yes, I did keep my children's books and now have passed them to their children.  Also 10 trucks that looked like new and my daughter's dolls, even her first one and all the Madame Alxander Storybook ones.

Let's talk about shoes!  As I've said many times, it had to be a man angry with his Mother in invent these uncomfortable shoes with the pointed toes!  And I used to wear these little strappy 3 to 4" heels, and carry my samples, plus a briefcases.  What was I thinking?  Now I want nothing over 2", if that much, the heck with being short!  I want cushioned insoles and comfort!  Love the mules, any kind, any color, and have several pair of them.

As for gardening, our yard is too small for a garden with veggies, but we do plant lots of flowers, and mostly perrenials.  Right now we have pansies and kale, but the lantana, thrift, day lilies, daisies, and other will be up soon, plus the mint!  There is a rabbit that lives under the deck and loves to nibble on the mint.    Guess he is the neighborhood mascot for we all see him and all make sure we don't run over him or her or them, for now we don't know if there are one or many!

Travel?  Yes, to anywhere we haven't been and some places again!

See ya next time, keep posting here and tell us what is going on in your life or what we can solve or just discuss! Roll Eyes

I'm not a shoe person either. When I was a kid all I wanted to wear were sneakers. I did wear high heeled shoes briefly in high school, I was too much of a tomboy to enjoy those. Since I don't work outside the home I don't need to own many different types of shoes. For years all I owned were a pair of sneakers, a pair of sandals and a good pair of boots. I will wear my shoes out , holes in the soles before I purchase new. Recently I was on a slip on clog style kick. My son hated those clunky shoes, I loved em, easy to slip my feet right in, no tying of laces to bother with...2 Christmas' ago he bought me a pair of shoes from Land's End. They were comfortable so I am wearing them every day now. They will be hard to wear out. In the summer I go barefoot or wear Teva sandals. Last summer the same son gave me a pair of flip flops. (he must have a problem with my lack of decent footwear) I loved those too! So now I own 1 pair of white sneakers  (generic brand), the Land's end shoes, Teva sandals, flip flops, and my good old Bean Boots and a nice pair of felt slippers. I also have tucked way in the back of the closet trying to pretend they are not there a pair of low heeled black dressy shoes to go with my 1 dressy dress I never wear either just in case I'm required to go someplace dressy or to a wedding or funeral. I'm all set!

hahahaha, shoes?  WE either love 'em or hate 'em!  I am a shoe person, love to have a pair of shoes to match whatever I'm wearing.  My favorite thing to wear is warm-ups of any kind and yes, you guessed it, sneakers!
Summers, I love to go barefoot also.
But I still LUV pretty shoes!
