Picture Time - - "Show and Tell"
« on: Mar 2nd, 2004, 5:27pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

As some of you remember, last year in the middle of a horrific snow storm, our first grandchild made her entrance into this world.  Our little "Snow Baby" recently celebrated her first birthday.  Some of you have been asking about her, so, with Rhune's help, I thought I'd share some birthday pictures with you.  Since I am technically challenged, Rhune has agreed to help me out with this.  She will be posting my pictures to this thread soon.  After she posts I'll give a little explanation for each pic.

If any of you other Grandma's have anything to share, jump right in here.  I'd love to see some of your grandchildren and hear about them.

Even without much hair, you can sure tell she's a girl.  She seems very dainty and feminine in those pics to me.  It's funny how much being a boy and being a girl really isn't society, but actually something we're born with.  I remember a time when I thought so much of it was sort of thrust upon us as norms of culture, but the truth is that there are so many things in my boys and friend's daughters that I can see is really an instinct and preference we are born with.  The hat, for example, if I'd put one of those on my boys the first thing they'd have done would be to take it off and drive a toy truck up the side of it. Wink  There's just not a chance I could get them to wear one, but my friend's daughter just loves little hats and things in her hair.

Thanks Rhune.

The first pic is Amanda with her mom (my oldest daughter) and her birthday dolly (a gift from Mr. I and me).

The second pic is Amanda with her gifts.  Notice the cat, that is Felix, he has been with my daughter for years.  As you can see, Amanda liked the bows on her presents as much, or more, than what was inside.  The headless people in the background are our friends, Janet and Dan (he is the one who was injured critically in the auto accident last year) and our youngest daughter.

The third is, of course, Amanda and her birthday cake.  Her mom and dad decided the best way to approach the "cake eating" was to strip down to the diaper and let her go for it.  After she was finished, she had a quick bath and was "good to go" again.

Wonderful pictures.

I know exactly what you mean about being "boy" or "girl". My daughter is 4 years olders than my son. When he was born we had tons of 'girl' things lying around. He would dig through all of them just to get to the one truck or action figure we had in the pile and completely ignore the stuffed animals and dolls.

We need to start a thread of pics.  Cheesy

No reason this has to be for grandchildren only.  I'd love to see everyone's pics.  Maybe we need to change the name of the thread.  Is that possible, Rhune?

Thanks for the comments everyone.  We think she is pretty special.  Tongue
