Hate Letter by Art Bell

Subject:        FW: HATE LETTER

This is an open letter email by Art Bell, a radio talk show host in Nevada (more info in the email itself).  Here is yet another person who has taken advantage of his power and privilege to use hateful words and racial stereotypes that breed further ignorance and intolerance in our society.

Please forward this to as many people as you can...and in case you have already received this, I apologize for the copy...

Art Bell is a talk radio host who has two shows that he broadcasts from his home in Nevada, that is rebroadcast by 400 stations across the country. He's written 2 books.  He lived in Okinawa, Japan for some years and had a radio program on the English station here. And, though it's hard to believe after reading the following letter from him, he actually has been to the
Philippines (he's traveled fairly extensively around the
world).

Check out his website to listed at the end to get a glimpse at this fool who's spreading this hateful ignorance. And check his wife as well.

This letter is so degrading, I think it's really important that everybody read this and not attack him, but respond to him in a civilized manner because otherwise his thoughts will be reaffirmed.  Understand that not everyone has a viewpoint like we do, and that this is an
opinion of someone who hopefully can be changed only by civil actions.

THE E- MAIL..................................

Subject:  Filipinos.....*make me puke* (Art
Bell)

As we've all come to notice, in the past few decades, Filipinos have begun to infest the United States like some sort of disease.  Their extensive involvement in the U.S. Armed Forces is proof of the trashy kind of qualities all filipinos tend to exhibit on a regular basis.

You can see this clearly by studying the attitudes and cultural Icons of most Filipino Americans.  Origins of Pinoys/Pinays: Are they really asian? Well we've come to accept the fact the filipinos come from a part of the world known as South East Asia.  But the term "Asia" is used in the wrong way.  You may notice that contemporary Filipino Americans try very hard to associate themselves with groups that we know as Asian.

I cannot count the number of times I have seen a 'Third World' Filipino try to connect themselves to the chinese or Japanese people.  There is no connection and here's why.  The Philippines is a Third World country.

Nothing respectable has EVER been created by Filipino people during our entire human history. Young filipino men in America have become obsessed with "import racing". They have an enormously perverted affection for Japanese cars.  It's a common phenomenon.  In their
minds, these filipinos somehow believe that they are
asian and that it somehow connects them to Japanese people and japanese cars.  They often take credit for the ingenuity of Japanese people and say how it's an "Asian thing". This term..."Asian thing" derived directly from African American slang "black thang".  "It's a black thang." "It's an asian thang."  You can
see the connection.  It's even funnier that, in Japan, Filipinos are heavily discriminated against.  The only filipinos that can live successfully in Japan are the filipino
prostitutes.  But that's the case for most Filipino people no matter where they live in the world.

Now we've come down to this fact...and it is a fact.  Nothing in Filipino Culture can be seen as
Asian. They have no architectural, artistic, or cultural influence which is in ANY way, asian. Thinking of the great countries in Asia such as Japan, Korea, and China there is no way you can possibly connect the Philippine Islands.

This assault by filipino americans to connect themselves with the great peoples of North East Asia is foul and disgusting.

Try visiting a young filipino's web site too. You'll see something called the "Asian IRC Ring".  It has to do with the chatrooms.  The most horrible thing about this is that these TRASHY people are trying to associate themselves with Asia again!! People in Asia don't act like, this at all.

What we are seeing here is the natural Filipino in it's element with full access to technology and this is how they act! You will consistently see this behavior over and over again. Another interesting thing is that these "thirdworld" people also frequent IRC chatrooms such as #chinese #japan and #asian. They must believe that they are some how related racially or
culturally to North Asians.

But it's completely WRONG!  There might have been some distant contact with China and even less with Japan during World War II, but these people are actually more closely related to african americans and Mexican americans.

Do the parents of these young filipinos know what's going on?  Would they accept this?  I believe that they would and do.  This is the natural "Trash" element in filipinos manifesting itself.

Nothing good has ever come from Philippines and I don't believe anything good ever will.

Recognizing your Roots (A Message to Filipinos).

To all filipino people:

Please recognize your ROOTS!

You come from the Third World! You country is a disgusting and filthy place.  Most people there live in poverty!  Your culture has MUCH MORE SPANISH influence than chinese, and absolutely no JAPANESE influence whatsoever.  People in Japan and China, do not act like you.  They do not constantly talk about sex and they have a MUCH HIGHER level of RESPECT for each other.

There is NO WAY that you can connect yourself to Asia other than location.

Your culture and technological advancement does not even come CLOSE to what Chinese, people have done in the past and what Japanese and Korean people are doing now!

Everything you do is distinctly filipino.  You cannot take credit for Japanese cars, video games, or Hentai! It's not an "asian thing" it's, an "American thing".

You have no concept of culture..no concept of asian ideas or asian philosophy!

Can you demonstrate how you use Confucianism or Taoism in your everyday life?? You can't.  And you will NEVER be able to.  I understand that you are trying to create an identity for yourselves as young people...  but it is NOT related to Asia. Your Identity is Filipino. That's all you are.

Just Filipino.  Think about what that means....

Sincerely,

  Art

This morning I have just read this from my mail and I would like to share this to all...  I do not know who this Art Bell is but I don't think he has the right to blatantly discriminate us Filipino or any race specially publicly...

This is a form of irresponsible journalism... I hope that he would be removed from his program...  I don't know why this guy has may this hate letter 'coz he doesn't truely know the Filipino....

We are a people of multiple influences from Asia and Spain and America... we are majorly of Malay race and some with mixed bloods by our conquerors... and these cultures have effect on our Filipino culture

Our country indeed has a high poverty line but we are not trashy people... during the span of history some Filipinos have already shared their part for the betterment of humanity... we had Agapito Flores who first invented the flourescent lamp but had to sell the rights to General Electric.. we had Filipinos who helped engineer the moon buggy used by the Apollo 16 project to the moon...  we have many dedicated Filipino workers all over the world.. and our professionals are respected by the Japanese and other Asian neighbors... I know for I have experienced their confidence to us when I was in Vietnam...

If anyone here is from Nevada or is able to listen to this guys program... I hope that you don't patronize his program and his insights... for no one has the right to discriminate anyone for each and every human in this world is made unique and equal...  Grin

 Cool Amen

We are having the same problem with the journalists reporting about Haiti.  In the Toronto Star this one article was so terrible and the guy clearly has no clue about Haiti, haitian people, their accomplishments, and what difficult circumstances the average Haitian faces in the midst of all this political turmoil.

Pau thank you for stating your views here.  You made the point perfectly.  I am sorry that this Art Bell character has done this and please don't think we all share his views.  We do not.

My Grandfather came here from the Phillipines and I can say without any second he was The Greatest man I ever met! He spoke kindly of his native country and visited often but called America home. I admit have have had problems with my other relatives from the islands but I NEVER equated that to where they came from and NEVER will. I consider the source here Art Bell's job his much like Howard Stern he is paid to shock. taboo sayings and topics attrack listeners and that sad. Best way to stop fools (who dont know what they are talking about) is to stop listenning and to contact the sponsers of these shows and tell them you will no longer purchase their product since they endorse a "Racist" Art Bell hasnt a clue to what he is saying anymore than some of the other nations that condem us as people. Consider the source Art Bell isnt worth the trouble and with the FCC cracking down since the Jackson/Timberlake thing we may soon see and end to morons like Bell!

Haveing Philipine decent doesnt mean I know culture that well but I can assure you I didnt see any of what Mr. bell writes about in any of my relatives, even ones I dont like! I saw little in his writing to say he spent any REAL time on islands or that he did very much investigation therefore I can easly throw out his claims. Perhaps if Mr. Bell didnt dearch out Phillipine Prostitutes he wouldnt find them! I would suggest that a fair amount of all cultures, races and religons are prositutes in japan and elsewhere his claim proves nothing! Mr. Bell's SOLE purpose was stir up enough trouble that people would listen to his show even if they disagreed! Best way we can tell Mr. Bell to kiss our @$$ is by NOT listenning to his show and contacting sponsers. That will speak much louder than hate mail to Mr. Bell and its much more adult a quailty Mr. Bell clearly doesnt have!

I am a very laid back person and I can put up with a lot. Racial biggotry is the one thing I cannot stand.

Anyone who holds themselves up above another man/woman based on race or any other characteristic is the lowest form of person on the planet in my mind.

I think Art Bell is known as being a big UFO buff. Not sure but I think he has a big program where he interviews all of the people who have been abducted, etc. each week.

I totally agree with what has been said here Pau! People need to judge people on an individual basis instead of on their race or culture. It is disgusting how people label races. I do not know any one from your country...but I have always enjoyed talking with you and there are many "white" people who totally irritate me..but I wouldn't classify white people as bad. I try my best to judge each person on who they are and what they strive to be. People like this Art Bell sure aren't helping people find love that is for sure. My one wish in this world has always been that all cultures could come together, respect each other's beliefs and and treat each other as we ourselves would want to be treated. I know it will never happen but I believe that is what God had intended.

Awwww Pau!  You'll find these kind of biggots all over the world.  This time said biggot attacked one of "our own".  Shall we stand for it?

Art Bell Returns to WABC

http://www.coasttocoastam.com/shows/2003/10/11.html

Effective immediately, WABC, the big 50,000 watter from New York City, has picked up the weekend edition of C2C. You can now catch the Saturday (into Sunday) and the Sunday (into Monday) shows from 1am-5am on 770 AM.

Newer/up to date info....

Art Bell
Weekend Host of Coast to Coast AM

http://www.coasttocoastam.com/art/about.html

BIO:

Art Bell is no ordinary talk show host, not just because "Coast to Coast AM" is the dominant live all-night show in America today, but because Art's a true radio fanatic, the ultimate "new media" personality. How many hosts get off the air after a four hour show, turn on another microphone, and talk to fellow Ham operators around the country? How many talk hosts have the engineering know-how to produce their own show, run their own technical board, and generally control the ebb and flow of the show from the first on- air minute to the last? Art Bell's grasp of the electronic revolution--and how to make it personal--is unique; he's a talk show host primed to influence 21st century America in more ways than one.

Although there's something distinctly "new century" about the Art Bell mystique, Art's upbringing was unusually traditional. The son of a Marine Colonel father and a Drill Sergeant mother, Art developed a taste for news and analysis at an early age; he knew that current events could have a significant--and immediate--impact on his life; the family could be re- stationed for the slightest geopolitical reason. Art made a point of staying tuned into world events--in other words, he became a news junkie.

By the age of 13, Art was an FCC licensed radio technician. A few years later, as a young airman, Bell and an equally foolhardy buddy built their own pirate radio station right on Amarillo Air Force base, secretly broadcasting rock 'n' roll to appreciative locals. These kinds of antics were not limited to bootleg military radio. As a civilian DJ, Art Bell landed in the Guinness Book of Records for a 116 hour (and 15 minutes) solo broadcast marathon "playing the hits" on KSBK on Okinawa, Japan. Then he raised money in Alaska that allowed Art to charter a DC 8, fly to Vietnam and rescue 130 Vietnamese Orphans stranded in Saigon at the war's end. They were eventually all brought to America and adopted by American families. Art's no-nonsense demeanor doesn't fool his listeners who sense he's more complex underneath.

Art Bell's political views are complex as well. He spent years on the island of Okinawa, living a Japanese lifestyle and working for KSBK, the only English speaking station in Asia; it gave him a Pacific Rim perspective and a grasp of international affairs that few talk show hosts really have. That plus his military background and his love of the news, made Art Bell a natural talk show host, a man who understood how politics, human nature, and cultural dynamics can affect national and international stability for better or for worse.

Art became immersed in the high tech world of cable television, eventually leaving radio to be part of building what became known as "Prime Cable." As Chief Engineer for Times Mirror in Las Vegas, Art was on the fast track. His radio life had faded but not his radio love; before long Art was back at a microphone. When the 50 thousand watt giant in Las Vegas, KDWN offered him the chance to broadcast all night to 13 Western states, he grabbed the opportunity and never looked back.
Later, a chance to go network opened up and Chancellor Broadcasting Company was created. But that presented a new challenge when it came to the radio world. Nobody thought all-night live radio had a future after Larry King abandoned his throne. Advertisers thought no one would listen anymore. "Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell" proved them wrong, and now proudly a part of Premiere Radio Networks, Art Bell is back doing Saturday and Sunday nights.

Art connects to his audience not just by the full force of modern technology from satellite to Internet to fax, but also by his unique view of the world, and a daring to pose all questions, no matter what the answer. When Art flips that switch and says "from the high desert and the great American Southwest," he's talking to millions of Americans who want to be part of a unique experience.

If you've ever sat in a darkened cockpit, in front of a twinkling control panel, and prepared for a night flight, you know the feel of what all-night radio can be like--the excitement of knowing that you'll be flying high and covering great distances while others are asleep. On "Coast to Coast AM" Art Bell is at the controls, guiding his millions of national listeners through the night's news, and bringing them in for a safe landing by dawn. That's Art Bell, and that's the Art Bell show. His fans know the feeling very well.

*********************************************

You can send him an email through that site.  I just did and here's how it went:

Mr. Bell -

Are you responsible for distributing the following email nation/worldwide?

Text of email

The reason I'm asking, is because I have a good friend who is a proud Filipino and he recently received the above email.  What you wrote, (IF you wrote it) shows your vehemence towards people of another country and your words were very hurtful - and most of what you wrote was extremely far from the truth.

If indeed, this is your email, I have only three questions, sir:  Why did you write this?  What was your purpose?  Why the hate?

Thank you,
A Reader

*********************************************

Of course, I don't expect an answer or any kind of response.  On the other hand, I'm not one to stand by with my hands in my pockets, either.  This was my way of venting.
