Manbags, anyone?

Hi! Everybody

We have a discussion going on at work about the purses-type bags that men carry.  Does anybody know the name for them?  We're thinking "manbags".

Does anybody have an opinion on them?  I'm thinking maybe they would rescue my husband's wallet that he always stuffs to destruction.

Can't wait to hear what you think!

the 3 males in my family carry tote bags from L.L Bean for computers, sort of a briefcase style with shoulder straps.
sort of along these lines. They are called messanger bags some times. ManBags sounds so wrong... even satchel would be better.

My husband wears a "fanny pack" but we usually just refer to it as a "pouch".  I was very stubborn about his not having a wallet when we got together because my first husband had a lot of back problems from having a too full wallet in his back pocket.  Even with a thin wallet, when you are sitting on one you are not sitting upright and over time your back starts to develop problems from sitting crooked for so many hours of your life.

My husband had back problems and visited a chiropractor. He was told to never carry his wallet in his back pocket but instead to carry it in a front pocket. My husband stuffs lots of paper in his wallet,  and business cards so it is really fat. Sitting on that for long car rides really caused a lot of pain but he never thought to remove the wallet. Ever since he changed the location of the wallet while sitting he has not had back pain. Plus a wallet carried in the back pocket is easier to pick pocket in crowds while one carried in a front pocket is almost impossible to steal. Men who wear sport coats or suit coats can also carry the wallet in the inside jacket pocket.
I was told that the term "Fanny pack" is a naughty term in Europe. Call it ANTYTHING BUT that!  Grin

The term 'fanny' is not the best in Australia.  We all call them fanny packs here in Canada.  But just like the word rooting, the word fanny has other meanings elsewhere.

Did you ask him if he minded if we called it a purse?  What does he call it?

I bet he loved your compliment.

O.K. Now I'm totally curious about these "manbag" type things.  So, I started "Googling" around.  Urbandictionary.com has one definition for "manbag" as:

"A purse with a strap worn by a man, often carried by someone who is a metrosexual"

"Steve forgot his manbag with all his credit cards and personal belongings."

And one of the funniest things I've seen is this:

O.K. Not really a manbag but it was mentioned in a discussion about them.  I don't think my hubbie would be caught dead in one.
