A New Life for lakelady
« on: Mar 15th, 2004, 5:31am »

Just wanted to give you all a heads up on what is happening in my world. About two weekends ago, I was happily headed to the lake as always and I had a sudden epiphany. It occurred to me that ALL of my family and friends were in Alexander City (and the surrounding area) where I grew up. Also my Methodist church where I attend with my parents, my library, my little movie theatre, etc. The only reason I remain in the big city of Birmingham is for my job. Exactly a year ago, my boss, Hap, passed away at the age of 52. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was gone in two months. Since then, I have drifted quietly along in my job with no real goals or thoughts of the future. Suddenly, I became aware of the need for change. When I returned to work after that weekend, I told the few of my coworkers about my new thoughts. They were behind me 100%. I could sense that Hap was too. Then, the following Monday, I was called in and told the sales center would be closing in about a month. I was given three more weeks to work. I've been laid off before so this did not shock me. I thought I had maybe a year left to look for a job but now I have only a few weeks. With my experience and my wonderful references, I have no doubt that I will find what I am meant to do. I have put it in God's hands and only He knows the outcome. Meanwhile, I have many changes to make. As I sit here now, I have boxes waiting to be packed. I am moving back to the lake and into my parent's home so that I will not have to pay for rent, power, phone, cable, etc. Once there and only for a couple of months, I can find my new job and the house out in the country I have longed for. I want a garden of my own and want to learn to do woodworking and decorating. I want the deer to feel happy to roam about my land. I want to wake up to birds chirping and to see the sun rise. I want to be able to see my family grow old around me. And to take care of them. So I tell you all of this so you will know when I am scarce on the boards in the coming months that I am fulfilling all of my dreams.  lake

Wait just a darn minute now. I am NOT leaving here.   Shocked
I'll just be busy packing boxes and interviewing and getting things in order. I am SO freakin organized.  And soon I will be taking over my Mom's computer which is much faster than mine. hehee.  About last night... I left my internet on all night. My Mom calls me a thousand times this morning. WAKE UP WAKE UP.   We've all been there.   The VP of Marketing at Russell Lands is trying to set up an interview with you.  Thing is, he has already closed interviews but because I wowed the socks off of human resources and he knows my parents, I have an interview with him tomorrow.  Cool Cool Cool
This would be the ideal job of the universe.  I've been jumping up and down and singing and have run my poor Tabby Kat off for the day.  Now...off to pack more boxes....

Just to let everyone know.  The interviews went GREAT this afternoon!  I was completely calm and felt right at home.  Because I WAS at home. I've been driving past this office for almost 30 years to and from the lake.  Know many of the people who work there.  Several of whom I have babysat their kids when I was a teenager.  Even the salary was up to par when I figured I would have to take a cut in pay.  I would be doing lots of fun stuff.  Writing assignments for various publications, coordinating special events and functions all over the lake at various marinas, working to promote annual events like the fireworks show and the many concerts that come to Lake Martin Amphitheatre.   Helping to work on the website and promoting Russell Lands on a national level for the very first time in history.  Hopefully I will know something within the next week and will let you all know.  Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers because I could feel them all today.   Smiley
Here is the website if anyone wants to check it out and send vibes that way.  http://www.russelllands.com/about_russell_lands/index.asp

 Sweet Lakelady!  You're going home.  It's good to be nearer to family and friends and other people who have watched you grow up.  You're moving forward to a good place.  It's just a wee bit beautiful too - I certainly enjoyed that website.

Just know we're here for you before, during and after this big change.  You must be really excited and we are too, for you.

And on your packing and being organized - I'm the same way.  Every box is numbered and I keep a list (and an extra copy) of what's in what box.  For me to write on a box "KITCHEN" isn't good enough.... :laff:

I hope you hear something really soon about that job!  I have a very good feeling about it.  :crossfingers:  Your folks and friends must be more than a little excited for you and themselves.   Kiss

And remember LakeLady, we wil still love you even if you don't get that job because another will be waiting. Any interview is good experience down the line. Wishing you luck on all you do and I know I need to plan a road trip to visit that pretty part of your state. Tongue
