Blockbuster Video

Just an FYI, the Blockbuster Video's here have gotten word from corporate headquarters to get rid of all video tapes.  Their stores are moving to DVD format only.

I noticed last night when I dropped a movie off, they have all video tapes in the store on sale, buy 2 get one free.

If you don't have a DVD player, now would be a good time to get one.  If you have a VCR, it wouldn't be a bad time to check out the sale and pick up some tapes at a cheap price.

Spongebob and Disney videos! But I bet they will ran out as fast as Tina got booted out.

I think they are promoting DVD to be the universal home video appliance huh? I see the VCD getting the boot soon. I mean they dont sell VCDs much anymore...

Nod, DVDs are the new standard, or will be shortly...and frankly since they can charge more money for DVDs I see the film companies spearheading this.

I recall LP (Albums) were phased out and I had a bunch of LP's I couldnt use after record player broke. Si I was forced to buy more expensive Cassette players. Same thing with 8 track etc etc. Its very very frustrating to buy all this stuff only to know one day soon someone will come up with something else and my money will be gone. Now will my VCR breaks (luckly I just bought kids a new one) I will have all kinds of videos that will be useless!

I have a friend who works at the local children's mercy hospital.  After our vcr broke this last time we decided not to replace it and just donated all our video tapes to the hospital through her.  They always need video tapes for little kids that are stuck in the hospital. Sad

Man!!  This is really disturbing news!   Just when I decide to get rid of my Sony Betamax and spring for one of those new-fangled VHS  VCR's ,  . . . . . THIS happens!!  Roll Eyes

Betamax... ahhh, those were the days. I remember when we had our first betamax when I was a kid and I used to borrow a lot of horror and cartoons. Here, we dont have it no more, rentals here are mostly VCDs and VHS, DVD are still starting to pick up, though there are LOTS of pirated DVDs for $1.80-$2 a disc.

yup.. definitely.. the DVDs are peaking up... that's why I stopped collecting VCDs specially for newer films...  i have around 70 original VCD movie copies collected from classics to new...

i am still trying to convince myself if I should really buy a DVD player now while the prices are high or wait later when a newer player format comes out... like the MiniDisc of the Japanese... though at least DVD players could still read the VCD formats... Grin

and boy.. DVD piracy is quite high here that even our foreign visitors usually stops over bargain shops where you can find pirated DVDs...

actually i don't like buying pirated CDs 'coz I know its illegal and takes taxes away.. yet.. comparing an original and a pirated DVD copy... hmmm...  its very hard to differentiate because their qualities are almost the same except of course of the casing...

I really can't see the point in owning movies myself. Once I have seen a movie I really don't enjoying seeing it again unless it was some super duper blockbuster of a movie that will stand the test of time. But this is really a bummer if Blockbuster goes to all dvd format as I don't own one and have no plans to purchase one anytime soon. I bet my local grocery store video rental will still carry VHS for a while longer until studios no longer manufacture them in both formats. I'll be out of luck then as I rarely even get to see movies in the theater. We see on average 3 movies in a theater per year and rent maybe 10?  Well since I'm not a big time movie viewier I won't stress over this news. More TV watching I guess.

Only movies we BUY are special ones we really enjoy or feel are keepsakes like Star Wars (we have them all) Omen films and many many Monster movie classics like Dracula amd Mummy with Bela and Boris. Far as buying film we tend to buy them for the kids. we belong to Netflix and rent films that way and then send them back. Pilar is going to blockbuster saturday to see what kids films are there we can get cheap. Lil David loves watching alot of the learning shows so she will focus on stuff from Disney and ? Seame Street etc etc
