Dad is going in for another fairly major surgery tomorrow (April 7, 2004). Although the surgery is done alot, I of course naturally am worried. It's called a carotid endarterectomy and the doctor's say it's essential he have it. Sigh. Dad and I are not so sure.

I hope that he doesn't have a stroke because of the surgery. It's my biggest fear.

The surgery is scheduled for 8 AM Wednesday April 7, 2004 EDT. It also happens to be my parents 48th wedding anniversary. Not a great way to spend it.

Dad has finally had 4 (or 5?) of his bladder cancer treatments. He has them every Thursday. He is not going to have one this week but may begin again next week depending on how he recovers.

That's all for now. I'll post followup news.

I hope this is the last surgery for a while. Once the doctor's got hold of him for his cancers they then started following up on other stuff. Of course it's not really fair to say that. Dad's carotid artery blockage on the one side is 90% or more. It's a rather long story because it used to be 100 % and has now decreased. They claim Dad has already had a stroke but he has had no symptoms.

oh I admit it, I am a sceptic when it comes to doctors.

I remember when the docs talked to my dad and I about having this surgery. He thought it was just plain silly and unnecessary. He had been having TIA's (a transient ischemia attack (TIA) or mini-stroke). Less than 6 months later, Daddy suffered a small stroke and a big one after the paramedics got him to ER; the worst one came a couple of days later.

So please, darlin' C - know that we're saying prayers up the wazoo that he is having this procedure and it will add better health for him in the years to come. Prayers for you and your mom and the rest of the family are coming on strong as well. Huge prayers for the surgeons too. Tomorrow is a big day.....

my dad's surgery was cancelled. I was not here to take mom's call. I called home and they don't answer the phone which means they are likely out celebrating their wedding anniversary.

this is whyI hate the Canadian medical system. It is very common to have surgery cancelled at the last minute to make way for another patient sicker than you. My dad is already on the urgent list for this surgery.

There was no bed for him to go to and so they could not do the surgery. They waited right up until the time for his surgery to see if the situation would change.

They had already celebrated their anniversary dinner twice earlier in the week LOL Last night they went to Wendy's! of all places. Brought home two salads. Dad does not eat any read meat any more and watches his food intake very carefully. Just made me laugh.

They had a good rest of the day and await a phone call bout the rescheduled date. hopefully April 14th.

Addams, I hope your father get's rescheduled soon. Your family is in my thoughts constantly. I'm sure that he will do great once the hospital gets their act straight.

P.S. I got engaged at Burger King...How's that for ridiculous?
