POLLS......

Hi everyone.......

Have you noticed the high rise in the number of polls at FN lately?  Well - I have and have noticed some people aren't too happy about it.

While I have no problem with - for instance - polls in the Survivor/SAS/TAR or competition type forums, etc., I scrunch my nose at those polls asking "who do you hate" or "who do you think is dumb(er)" or "who's the most boring"....on and on.  Just my  :twocents: but what is the value of polls like that?  Then, there are duplicate polls on the same inane subject, such as "who do you least like."   :yell:

So....that being said - what are your peeves (or likes) about polls?  I know, I know - this is a poll about polls :laff:

Thanks!  Sharon

I voted for the first reason, since its the most reasonable and right answer to why I join a poll...

To me they have to have merit. I pass by the majority of them but ones with substance that can generate a decent response I vote on.

Also, it depends on who the creator of the poll is, I'm sorry to say.  If I know that the member just keeps creating one poll right after another, I pass.

I'd like to see a poll on Poles:

Which would you rather visit?  North?  South?

I find the overwhelming amount of pointless and repeitive polls annoying and that is being polite! I avoid these annoying polls that fit into these areas and I tend to avoid threads started by these pollsters! Sadly the annoyance of all these pointless polls takes from legimate Polls and pollsters.

Well - good.  I posed this question less than 24 hrs ago and I feel y'all think pretty much the same way.

7 votes: It really depends on the subject, but it has have substance

4 votes: Some people do nothing but create polls and don't post

3 votes: I see too many polls on the same subject

2 votes each:  Usually, I just read them and go on to the next subject; I think most polls are just dumb ; Most polls don't have enough questions for me to vote

IMO, in essence the above questions were worded to mean the same thing.  So, it would seem to me this should give a biggggg clue that we're not even "in like" with poll after poll.   So for now, I'll  Lips Sealed and  :crossfingers: .....

I cant vote on your poll  Sad cuz my answer is "I've never voted on a poll and won't ever" and if I voted...then it wouldnt be true anymore.  Wink

But seriously, I think polls should be used only is specific sections of the forum. A poll is a survey, what does the majority thinks, yes, no, sometimes.

When the answers need further explanations, then its not a poll, its a thread.

Well, I voted for the first one also.

Yes, there seem to be a lot of polls lately, but they are harmless.  IMO.   Sometimes, I vote on a poll, just because it seems that everyone is ignoring it.  I hate to see someone's thread not get reply's.  I think we are all equal, regardless of age, or number of posts; and I think that maybe we need to try to understand that some people's tender age causes them to post things that we might not.
We should just ignore the threads that offend us, or that we have no interest in, but not try to make the person quit doing what they seem to enjoy doing (as long as what that person's doing isn't offensive).
I hope this doesn't make anyone mad. I seem to be super good at that these days.

Ok I am going to piss some of you off but here I go! Many of you recall thread "Race to 1000" in which Dar, myself and Azure were posting trying to reach 1000 and Firums God status. The thread was "harmless" (word just mentioned) it bothered no one one had to choose to go to thread. Somewhere along the line it annoyed many persons and I waa scolded for doing this and thread was locked! This cause at least one person to remove themself temporaliy from forums and even now only posts rarely. I disagreed with this but did understand. THIS POLL "crap" is NO DIFFERENT its meaningless and its a waste of thread. I might also add that unlike "Race" thread it gives the appearance of a ligimate thread. If we are going to continue dribble I fear we will lose members "Intellgent ones" I understand the pollsters mean no harm and I also understand most of them are young and this is the kind of thing young people do! This site is "mostly" made up of an age group much older. I have NO PROBLEM with young people on site but its not up to them to change our home to their liking or turn it into a High School chatroom! I again state I welcome theseperson and their input but enough is enough with the mindless polls and chatroom dribble please! Please start posting in existing threads let us get to know you and you us! there is awonderful thread in grapevine designed so newbies can introduce themselves and so we can all get to know each other. Ok I ranted enough for those angered I am truly sorry. I did not means this as an attack I am a long standing member here and I just dont care for what I have been reading and I know many others agree!

David's right.  Our newbies need to introduce themselves so we can properly welcome them.  This would be so much nicer than "meeting" them through poll after poll.

I also don't intend any malice toward our younger members who seem to delight in polling.  Personally, I think one needs to really get a feel for this board and its members before polls become effectively engaging.
