Thought ya'll might enjoy reading the press release I just wrote on our July 4th event here on the lake.
I'm pretty darn proud of it.    Grin

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Subject: 4th ANNUAL FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS AND MUSIC CELEBRATION

Date: May 13, 2004

Russell Lands, Inc., invites everyone to enjoy July Fourth on Lake Martin with the Southeast’s largest fireworks show! The 4th annual free fireworks show, which is scheduled for 9 p.m. Friday Sunday, July 4, is sure to be the biggest and best ever!  A musical show will begin at 4 p.m. with four bands performing, and proceeds from the concert ticket sales benefiting Children’s Harbor. Those not wishing to attend the concert can watch the fireworks show from boat or in the open field free of charge at the Lake Martin Amphitheater where the event will be held.

The Russell Lands Fourth of July Blast from the Past will be an enjoyable and entertaining event for people of all ages. The fireworks show, which is free to everyone, is the largest fireworks show in the Southeast, according to Pyrotechnics, the company that sets up and discharges the half-hour long patriotic light show.

Russell Lands began sponsoring the fireworks show four years ago, after agreeing to continue Montgomery’s Red Blount’s tradition of the Fourth of July fireworks. Rather than see an end to this now historic event, Russell Lands continues to provide $50,000 in cash and in-kind support for the show.

Headlining for the 4th Annual Russell Lands Fourth of July Blast from the Past will be Montgomery’s own Sweet Young’uns, who will be taking the stage at 7:30 and again directly following the fireworks.  Other groups performing will be Muse from Auburn, Homeland, and Shades of Blue from Alexander City. Also, Children’s Harbor will have short programs between the sets for the young or just young at heart!

Advanced tickets for the benefit concert are $10 and can be purchased at Aliant Bank, Auburn Bank, Children’s Harbor, Eastdale Mall Information Booth, First National Bank of Sylacauga, Kowaliga Marina, Our Town Country Cupboard, Peoples Bank of Tallassee, Real Island Marina, The Ridge Marina, River North Marina, all locations Russell Do it Center, Russell Lands, Inc., Kowaliga and Vaughn Road Sinclair’s. Tickets at the gate will be $15 and children under 12 are free.

Gates will open at 3 p.m., so bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy great music and a Russell Lands fireworks show that is sure to bring wonderful memories! Concessions will be available. The Lake Martin Amphitheater is located on Highway 63 about 1 mile south of Kowaliga Bridge. From Highway 280 in Alexander City, take Hwy. 63 South approximately 16 miles.

No boat traffic will be allowed to or from the amphitheater shoreline – access is by car only.  Access to the large amphitheater park field will be free all along Highway 63. The park is 1 ½ miles south of Kowaliga Bridge.

Of course!   The best part is that all my work will be done by the time of the show so I can sit back and enjoy it and just meet, greet and shake hands all night.
The fireworks really are spectacular.  And the lake is all lit up like a Christmas tree due to the miles and miles of boats.

Okay here is the press release I just wrote for the boat parade.    Grin

The Fourth of July Flag Boat Parade has long been a tradition providing entertainment and fun for the entire family. Now in its 14th year, the event has grown considerably from its beginning.

Founded by the late Jim Bain Sr., this year’s parade is scheduled for Sunday, July 4, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Kowaliga Marina. Contestants in the event are encouraged to be creative in showing their patriotic spirit and will have the opportunity to win some great prizes.

Boats of all sizes and brands will line up single file and “parade” from Kowaliga Marina, following the marina lead boat to Children’s Harbor, circling just past the lighthouse, and heading back to the marina. Onlookers line up all along the shoreline marveling and applauding the colorfully-decorated holiday boats. Once back at the marina, prizewinners are announced in these categories: Largest Flag; Tallest Flag; Most Creative Boat; and “Yankee Doodle.” The Yankee Doodle category includes boats decorated with an American history theme.

Prizes are given to the top three winners in each category.

Anyone interested in participating in the boat parade/decorating contest should turn in a registration form by July 3. Registration forms can be picked up at Kowaliga Marina, The Ridge Marina, Real Island Marina and River North Marina. For out-of-towners, call 334/857-2111 to request a form and mail it back to Kowaliga Marina, c/o Boat Parade,  255 Kowaliga Marina Road, Alexander City,AL 35010. Registration is free.

Please be sure to fill out the registration form completely as it helps the judges when deciding on the winners. Be sure to put all names of everyone included on the boat that day, as well as a theme name for Most Creative Boat or Yankee Doodle categories.

Folks, I should tell you our experience two years ago going to the lake to watch fireworks.  However I do respect the space it would take to tell it!  We've decided to NOT try that again!  After all the dust had settled, so to speak, we laughed all the way home and that was 1 A.M.
We had an afternoon and evening of Murphy's Law Roll Eyes Undecided
P.S.
LL, very good writeup.  Does this mean yo're inviting all of us to your parents for the fourth celebration?
Did I just hear your Mom faint Huh
