Im diving back in the dating pool after years of marriage to my highschool sweetheart and boy have things changed!

It would be so nice to go out and spend time with some good people, not looking to tie the knot again anytime soon..many of my friends and co-workers have met their 'matches' over the internet, dating services , so on....they say its a good way to prescreen for potential wackos....anyone agree?

I met my husband on the web, but not via a dating service.  I have a younger brother who's gone on several dates now from a dating service and has not met his match, but hasn't really had any bad experiences either.  This subject has come up before and I know some will encourage you not to date people from the web because there are a lot of weirdos out there, but there are wierdos everywhere and my own experiences with web dating were good.

Pilar and I met in a similar matter but I dont recommend using net to meet people which I know some disgree with but only because there are many out there who pretend to be something other than what they are and that at the worst can be dangerous and at least VERY disappointing. but if its any help there are two HAPPY stories of net meetings and marriages

well it was eons ago and dating has changed since then but back in 1968 I met my husband at a fraternity party at college. He was the folk singer playing guitar and the only sober person in the place. I was in the process of drying out and he was the safest bet that night. He liked that I could attend the party and not drink.  We have been happily married for 33+ years.
Closer to reality are my 2 sons. Youngest had never dated in high school or college and was working as a computer programmer at another college. Another woman in the computer info department thought he was the smartest thing she had ever seen and he was always helping her out with computer problems. He was too dumb to notice she was interested so her friend told him to ask Juli out and he got up the courage to ask her and they have now been living together for over 2 years.
Older son had been living  in DC with his college sweetheart for 6 years but she got tired of waiting around for something permanent and moved back home with her parents. She left him the summer of 2001. On 9/11 he got a call from a  friend of the first girlfriend asking if he was ok as she knew he often visited the Pentagon. During that phone call she found out he was single again and asked him out. They have been dating since and are now living togehter since last September.
My own instincts say to keep away from internet dating, tell friends to keep their eyes open for other singles you could be set up with for double dates. Or hang out at the grocery store and watch for interesting people shopping for one!
Good luck!

My spouse was a roll-checker for choir in our graduate school.  I guess you could say my spouse checked me out really good!  We got married 13 months after we met.  We've been married 15 years.

Shamon, that is one funny statement about your home town!

Kelby, I met my husband when we were 6 & 7 in elementary school.  We married 38 yrs later!  WOW!  That sounds like we older than dirt!
Anyway we were always good friends, in each other's company in school,  I dated one of his friends in high school.  We had one date when I was a Sr., and he in college.  We did not have the 2nd date for I didn't want to get hooked up with a hometown guy Roll Eyes!

I saw him two times in the next many years briefly, the last time being at a football game and he looked great!  Four years later we met again on the street corner going to our Mother's homes, chatted for a few minutes and he said he would call me.  Well, he did, but it was 3 weeks later!  He teases me about that and says he did not want to appear anxious.  He surely didn't!

His wife had died two years before of cancer.
I was NOT the other woman!

Our first date we went dancing.  I will say that when we had our first dance I knew I was in the arms of the man I should be with for the rest of my life.   He says he knew from the beginning also!  We dated for a year and married on
June 30, 1984.  As I had been single for 7 years, I had vowed to never marry again!  So glad I changed my mind!

I guess we can say it was "love at first sight" after many years of looking,  but not seeing!  We've decided to not dwell on the years we "could have" been together, for we might have gone the way of many of our friends who dated in high school.  Spending the last half of our life together is and has been the best years of my life and he agrees.

Single friends who know us want a relationship like ours. What a compliment!   Tongue

Well, being the shy guy I am my wife was the one who made the first move.

I was managing a record store in the Chicago Wrigleyville area. My wife had been out the whole day putting in apps to get a job. On the way home she thought why not hit my store as it was just 3 blocks out of her way. She came in, my district manager was there and hired her without my knowing. I came in one day, wondered who this new person was. Thought she was very attractive but I had dated employees before and that is just a mess so I told myself hands off.

Over the next month I realized we had a lot in common. Any woman who knew who King Crimson was and liked their music had to be good in my book.  Grin She liked me and wanted to ask me out so she threw a Christmas party, invited the whole store just to get me to come (I was the only one who came). We talked most the night and by the end of the evening we were holding hands and our relationship took off from there.

Two weeks later I was transfered to Michigan City Indiana, we dated long distance, I proposed 2 months later and we have been together for the last 11 years (this June).

I think I would not be adverse to meeting someone over the internet were I single though. I have met many wonderful people I would love to get to know better were I single over the years. I used to play online games like Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, etc. Met many cool people and I think if you spend enough time talking to someone you can get to know the real person via the internet. Most people (myself included) feel very relaxed opening up where we tend to hide more when we talk to someone IRL. The web allows you to be true to yourself and not be judged as if you are you can just move to a site where you feel comfortable being you.

GL in the dating game.

My ex-husband was a HUGE King Crimson fan.   I have actually been to a couple of their concerts.
