my husband and I went to shop at a real honest to goondess spy store yesterday. We gawked for about 30 minutes in addition to the time spent getting advice on a surveillance camera for the back of our property where our garage backs into a common laneway.

We have had a number of "incidents" back there and decided we would see if a camera might help.

although when I saw the 14.95 Fake Camera with lights and alarm I started to think that might suffice.

We have had graffiti on our garage, and numerous dumpings of illegal garbage, and once last summer someone actually took a dump in front of the garage door and cleaning up human feces is not something I ever want to do again.

I suspect local folk but not necessarily immediate neighbours. There is alot that goes on back there including teenagers. also we find empty booze bottles. It seems that between the offset of the garage, the little concrete bench and the tree everyone thinks it's a stopover.

Addams, try a motion detection light. One that comes on immediately when something goes across your back area. They do work, you may have to adjust it so it doesn't come into a neighbor's window. As my husband says, "If an ant goes across the drive, he wants to know it".

Also, I would try the $14.95 spy cam, loiters don't know how well it works!

i agree with luci on the motion detector light. it is amazing what people would do in the dark that they wouldn't necessarily do in the light for fear of being seen.

There is a street lamp right there by the garage. the problem is the isolation. we just cannot see behind the garage from our house.

Sometimes when I drive in the lane I see teenagers hanging out there. I get a bit of a laugh by opening the garage door from the end of the lane before they have seen my car. That gets them moving pretty fast. :laff:

I do agree with you all however that a fake one with a little motion detector that turns on a spotlight and a quiet little alarm would likely resolve some of the issues.

My Mother-in-law used to have a fake dog that used batteries to bark sat beside her front door and when someone got near it. Then of course you have to leave the dog out on the driveway or just inside your fence.

I highly reccommend the motion detection light. It won't have to alarm for them to run when it comes on, therefore you won't have to go outside and reset it each time.

Aside from the teenagers, I would think a camera might be a good investment anyway since there was an abduction last year near your neighborhood. At least one girl was recovered in the states thanks to a neighbor's camera catching the car on tape. I hate to be so paranoid about my kids' safety but it's hard not to be in today's world.

excellent point. I agree. Sadly the little girl who was abducted was murdered and we just had a candlelight vigil marking the one year anniversay of her death. Sigh.
