I'm prescribing Plavix and alprazolam. That's it. And as far as sending you to a neurologist, what's the point? I'm prescribing these meds and that's all that can be done. STOP smoking and STOP drinking. That's it. And as far as your eyesight is concerned, there's nothing to be done to prevent you from going blind. That's it."

Even though I self-diagnosted about the possibility of stroking (which is why I wanted to get back to the doc) - he had no right to speak to me in that manner. (IMNSHO) I'm in process of procuring a different GP. You MUST have a GP here.

Well, so basically, that's it (ala GP) except that I'm quitting smoking and drinking (1 glass of wine at night) post haste. I'm not interested in completely losing my sight nor dying that soon. I want to see my two grandsons grow up some.....at least for a few years.

So - there it is. Please don't try to hear me whining ( but I might bitch now and again) because I won't do that. I want to live.

I think that is a miserable explanation and frankly I would send your remarks to the college of Physicians and surgeons in Manitoba. A stroke is a serious matter. I think you SHOULD be referred to a specialist as well and you should ask him for the referral. Insist up on it since he's such a useless gp.

I tell you what. I had a good friend pass away from a brain tumor this year and it taught me one thing.

Never give up.

He as diagnosed 5 years ago with the nastiest of tumors (most died in 3 months once diagnosed with this type). They operated and removed it. It came back a year later. They shrank it with radiation. It came back. They went after it again but to no avail.

I have known this guy since middle school and he took every day as if it were his last. Life, every stinking minute of it, was precious to him. Nothing ever got him down and he went kicking and screaming and the docs all stood there and shook their heads.

I hope everything turns out well for you. Keep in mind all those in your life that are pulling for you. Whether they be internet friends or real life ones. Make each day special. Hopefully we will all have you around for a long, long time to laugh and share stories with.

Well, crap.....or another load of bull! Your doctor has no business talking to you that way, and still call himself a doctor. I hope you find a different doctor, and soon. #%@#@&....I'm spitting mad! You're a tough gal, Wingsy, and you can quit smoking and reduce that risk. Lots of people quit, even those that don't want to, do it for health's sake. I did too. This doctor gave you one more medicine......anger can motivate you to do what ever you need to do to improve your health. We're pulling for you!

Well, his bedside manner leaves something to be desired, but he was also saying some very important things to you about taking better care of your body that you need to hear. You're a strong lady, but you DO need to take better care of yourself or you'll reach a point where your body can't keep up with you anymore. I hadn't realized you were still drinking. I know we talked about this some time back and you had decided you were going to give alcohol up, but it sounds like you just traded hard liquor for wine, which is a little better for your body, but still not good for it - especially when you have so much other stuff like this going on. I love ya darlin, but it sounds to me like your doctor felt like he needed to give you an ass-chewing in order to get you to really hear what he was saying. This is serious stuff. Get a second opinion/diagnosis, but still listen to the important things this doctor was saying to you, regardless of how jack-assy he said them. :hug:

Wingsy darlin, I so agree with Pocket and Rhune. The doctor acted like an asshole, but I think he was trying to goad you into action. I have never had to give up any kind of addiction, so I can't be of much help to you there; however, I am here for any emotional help you need, or desire. Take care of yourself. We all love you so much. Good luck with the cigs and alcohol. You are definitely a survivor, and you can show that asshole that he's wrong!

i, and many of us, love you so much and want you to be there for those boys (as well as us) for a good long time. i will keep you in my prayers and close to my heart as you start to make health and lifestyle changes. remember, you are special to all of us. what would we do without our wingsy!
