Apollo Moon Landing Anniversary

I just read the following at www.pulse24.com, I had forgotten that today was the anniversary of this incredible event:

Quote:

Tuesday marked the 35th anniversary of the day man first landed on the moon. And like most incredible moments, it’s the phrase spoken by Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong that resonates with any who were around back on July 20, 1969.

After telling Houston that “the Eagle has landed”, Armstrong stepped out on the lunar soil for the first time with the phrase, “That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

I was 11 years old at the time and I remember it so vividly sitting in the den with my entire family.  Dad and I used to watch all the missions together on the television.

As do I, Addams, we were watching the landing also.  But, there was nothing else on all channels.  My young son was so impressed, so of course for Chirstmas he wanted space toys, etc., a space suit!

Yes, I've heard that it was all a hoax!  I don't call it an old wives tale, since it's only from men that I've ever hear this rumor.

Somehow - I never heard (growing up) older people state that they didn't believe the US had landed on the moon.  Personally, I believe that this negativity was  spawned by Media hype and had nothing to do with "old wives tales".

When it was time (back in '69) for the moon landing, both my husband and I walk 3 year old Deborah to view this history-making event.  To this day, she remembers everything she saw.

My apologies.... perhaps I need to find a better word than "old wives tales" next time and quit hanging out in barber shops....  Its just an expression...

Of course that would be true.  I had forgotten that.  Times have changed since then and it's cool to remember.  :thanks:

Sorry Bora.......I feel the 'diapert' contects of your post were totally unnecessary.   The Apollo moon landing was a fantastic time.  I'm around dirty diapers enough that I don't feel it was cool drage them into this thread.
Maybe you were trying to be funning but perhaps another subject at a different level would have worked.

It was not meant in that vein. I was born in 68 and was 1 at the time. That was the only connection I attempted (and failed it seems) to make.

I will remove that post out of respect for those who want to keep this on a more serious level.

Wingsy, I don't think Borad was meaning to make light of the
Apollo Moon Landing, just telling where he was at the time.
He's one of the good guys here at Forums Grin

Maybe some of you that listened and watched can clear something up.

I am an avid UFO freak. One thing they claim is that the whole mission was there for the public to listen to if they wanted.

At one point the UFO sites claim that while on the moon one of the astronauts said, "Huston, we are not alone up here." After that they blocked the broadcast for a bit.

Many UFO believers claim there are signs of habitation on the back side of the moon and we were "warned" to stay away from there.

Now, I am not that big of a freak but I do believe in other life and this intrigues me. Any of you remember something along those lines?

One thing to note is that many Apollo astronauts now claim they saw UFO's during their missions. Some have not said it but several noted ones have. Interesting to me no matter what the true story is.

Regardless. I think the moon landing was instrumental to our society and our way of life. I think we should go back again and try a colony there instead of a space station. Makes more sense to me to use that as a base for Mars missions, etc. and the abundance of Helium 3 (I think this is the right name) makes it an ideal place to mine for our economy.

That's very intersting Boradamer, i hadn't heard about that, but I too am a UFO enthusiast (though more of a skeptic than a believer, just fascinates me)

Do you have a website with this info?

Yeah, Borad! Can you post the address of that info? or why not PM AoM and me? The link might be deemed off-topic.  Wink

I like UFO's too, but don't want to think of them when I'm on the road alone. Freaks me out.  Grin
