So, tell us.   If you know, where did your ancestors come from?

My father's grandfather came from Denmark.  There's also some German, Welsh, and Irish in there.

My kids have all that plus Brazilian Indian, Portuguese, and even stronger German bloodlines from their dad's side of the family.

I'm an odd duck.....probably in more ways than one.  Most Americans are a mix, but my paternal grandfather came from Norway, and married an American born Norwegian, and my maternal great-grandfather and his wife came from Norway.   So we say we are Norwegian Americans, but way, way back there's probably something else, like Laplanders.

The first colonists landed in the "New World" and settled in Jamestown, Virginia in 1607.

My ancestors weren't here in 1607, but we weren't far behind, coming from Scotland.  They landed in Jamestown/Williamsburg Virginia in 1634.

. . . . and in the subsequent 370 years, we have managed to migrate  80 miles west!  Wink

Are you sure you want to get me started?  I have a long history of ancestors on both sides.
On my Mom's side of the family there is Indian and Irish.
On my Dad's side there is Irish, German, English & French.  I'll tell about my Dad's side for I know more of it.
My Gr Gr Grandfather came to TEXAS in 1836 to fight for the Independence of Texas against San Jacinto and was with Sam Houston at that battle.  His name is on the San Jacinto Monument in Texas City, outside of Houston.
He migrated North to our county in 1869, married, had 12 children and I'm the last decendent living in the area.
My daughter and I did apply for and get our
Daughter's of The Republic of Texas membership and my son the Son's of The Republic of Texas membership.

Now you are asking yourself why was this important to me?  My feelings are this is a legacy I can leave to my
five Grandchildren and this is history.

My Grandchildren are 7th generation TEXANS.

With so many people moving to our state, in years to come this will be rare and few between.  Now to have my
Gr Gr Grandchildren born in this great state!

Hmm, well. on my father's side I am German/Norwegian (same as Pocket). On my mother's I am Scottish/Irish/German.

My great grandmother's parents came over from Norway and she was born in the US. It is always interesting for the family reunions as all of them are giants.  Grin My grandmother was 6', my great grandmother was 6'1". I guess that is where my brother and I get all our height (6'4").

Luci, my mother traced her family tree and found one of our ancestors was Col. Travis from the Alamo. Looks like I have a little Texan in me as well.  Cheesy

Cool David! I thought you have Spanish blood.

Nothing much going on in our family's history. Filipinos all the way.  Grin

(Although I like to listen to my father's and mother's story about how their ancestors where rich before but lost all the money due to tragedy, etc. Makes me imagine that someday someone will come up to us and say "You're the long lost heir of Blahdebie Blah...")  Grin

I have a couple of things in my bloodline!  As my last name, Nonnemacher, would suggest, I have a lot of German blood in my dad's side of the family, but that is not to leave out a little bit of Polish (grandmother's maiden name was Kaminski.)  Then on my mother's side of the family, her great-grandparents immigrated from something like Czhechoslovakia (sp??) or what ever it's currently called.  They referred to it as Bohemia Smiley.  The reason my family immigrated is entertaining...the younger son in the family burned down the farm because he was jealous that it was promised to the oldest son.  Since they had nothing left, they came here! Smiley  Then there's also some extra German in that part of the family.

....and sad also!  Then who got what when the parents died?  Was the younger son still left out of their will?

Apparently, out of his anger, the younger son just ran off once he burned it.  So may be he came back later, but by the time he was back they had already immigrated.  We don't know what happened to him.  However, it was his choice.
