just letting you know I may not be around as much for a little while, as my mother was just hospitalized yesterday after suffering a stroke.

They ran some tests today, and she may possibly be getting surgery sometime this week as they think the arteries in her neck are clogged, the surgery will unclog them.  I never heard of this, but I gues that is why I am not a doctor

she says she feels fine, and when I went to see her she looks pretty good

Wow!  I'm so sorry to hear about this, Azure!  Embarassed  I'm sure that your being there for your mom will make both of you feel better.  I hope that she recovers fully.

My mother had this done on both sides last year.  Like your mom, it started with a mild stroke, which did cause her some problems initially and took I'd say about a year to recover to 100%, but not long to recover to about 80%.  This particular surgery is pretty safe as far as they go and I know my mother did really well with it.  She was clogged in the carotid arteries 99% on one side and 97% on the other and they were able to quickly roto-rooter it out and she was just so much better right away.  They did one side and then let her heal for about 3 weeks and then did the other side.  She has some long scars on her throat, unfortunately, but they are thin and faded pretty well after she used some mederma cream.  I'm sorry to hear this happened to your mom, I know I was scared to death when it was my mom, but I know she will do great and that this is a pretty safe proceedure as far as they go.

my mother is doing ok to date

she may even come home this weekend

she had a test done this morning where they went up through the veins in her leg (if I understood correctly) to check out her veins for blockages

she now has to lay flat on her back for 6 hours, which is killing her, cause her back is bothering her, but better safe than sorry

thanks very much for the kind words everybody

Thank goodness she's doing better.  Hearing about the good fortunes of some, gives us hope for the others.

Azure, just wanted to check up since it's been awhile and ask how your mother is doing.  Did she have surgery?
