Or have an impact in your life?

For me, I used to like whatever bands that have popular songs when I was younger(mainstream stuffs)... but when I turned 12, I became an Aerohead as well as a Bon Jovi fan.

Aerosmith cuz their songs are funky and energetic, and Steven have one of the most unique voices, and as I grew older, I can relate to their songs - mostly about break ups.

While as of Bon Jovi cuz their songs are great even if its corny at times. They deliver good love songs and heartbreak songs, as well as songs that can keep you going even when youre down in the dumps(not that energetic but inspirational, more on words!)...

When I was an annoying teenage girl, I loved NSYNC and Backstreet Boys.  Haha, but now my favorite artist is Ben Folds.  Good, good stuff.

Hard to say as my tastes have changed over the years.

Pre-teen:    Oldies - My dad always had them on in the car.
Teen:     Led Zeppelin, Kansas, ELO
18-24:   Couple of differnt phases. There was the metal phase with Iron Maiden, Metallica, etc. There was the punk phase with Bauhaus, The Cure, Depeche Mode, etc. There was the alternative phase with Toad the Wet Sproket, Nirvana, etc.
Now:     I like a bit of everything. 8 years managing a record store did wonders for my tastes. I like Jazz, Blues, some Country, a few pop groups. I tend to find I like the easy listening stations as it was the stuff I grew up to. Bottom line is I tend to appreciate good harmonies (Indigo Girls) and female singers.

Idolized: Hmm, I guess Kansas would be the one I have, and will always, loved. I met them a few times and they are all great people and the music reaches to me.

same here david, I cant stand rap, and as they say, "you cant have rap without crap!"... And most of it is cuz of how they deliver - so depressing or angry, and their videos are all about girls acting like skanks, and about showing off... Not all but most these days. Run DMC is cool though... Sad that they are no more...

And to me, rock and roll will always be the best! Way better than what is rock today!

Gosh guys, ya'll are sure dating MOI!

Growing up in the 40's was the Big Band sounds.  One thing that brings back this fond memories is going into Dick's 5&10 cent store in downtown Branson, Mo., for the 40's music is always playing.

Becoming a teenage in the 50's, my college age cousin told me country was crap, so I did not like or listen to it at all!
Thankfully, the 50's was when Rock N Roll was born.
My husband and I still love it, you can beat it for good dance music and sing a longs, which we do!
.........................and ELVIS is still the KING Cool

In the 60's much was pretty bad, for so much of it was written when the writer was higher than a kite!
Weird Music from that era in rock n roll!
Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Wayne Newton, only to name a few males.  Ann Margaret, Doris Day, etc., for I can't think of any more at this timeThese were the ones we enjoyed.

The early 70's brought Tony Orlando and we love his music, also met him in Branson and I can still feel the big Italian sloppy kiss on my cheek!  (Our son and his son were/are friends)
70's music when my children were teenagers,  we had DISCO, still love Disco music!

The 80's with a different sound in country, that we [some of us] can stand!  Some is good, some is not!
When my husband and I started dating in 1983, I had no clue as to who was George Straight!  Now I love his music, Allan Jackson, Clint Black, Barbara Mandrell, Dolly Parton, Ricky Scaggs, The Whites(Sharon White is Ricky's wife), and our friend whom I can't forget, Barbara Fairchild, her big hit - "I Wish I was A Teddy Bear"

From then on you hear what I hear in Music, unless you are listening to RAP, CRAP, heavy Jazz or OPERA!
My ears can't take this music!

We see every Musical that comes to the Music Hall.  Some of the greatest writers came from the musical stage productions.
Rogers & Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Marvin Hamlish, etc.,
for dance Bob Fosse,  Tommy Tune, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Mitzi Gaynor, to many to mention.

One thing for sure; music is here to stay.
Listen and enjoy :singer: :drummer: :guitarist: :singer:

Nice overview luci!

And I want to add that I love opera style too since luci mentioned it. Styles that we see in Disney cartoon movies like Beauty and the Beast!

I also love classics here and there, especially "Tie a Yellow Ribbon", just a few weeks ago, my girl and I were singing that on our way to a mountain top with a city view. Also, "You Dont Bring Me Flowers Anymore", "Knock Three Time"(or whatever the title is)... and Carpenters all over!

As an old (putting it mildly) music fan, I'm a bit older than Luci.  I still love big band music.....it played all the time when I was a pre-teen.  I loved the singing groups that were popular in the 50's and R&R....Elvis was a huge influence.  When the hippie movement was.....er, "moving", there was a lot of sitar music, which I hated.   There is usually some music in every decade which I enjoy.  I didn't enjoy country music till around the 80's.  We don't play music that much lately, except in the car, when I like to have either country playing, or soft rock...any rock that isn't heavy metal.   That just gives me a headache......and rapcrap gives me a bellyache.

my favorites would include my first crush Bobby Rydell. Then I'd include the folk singers of the 60's and Peter Paul and Mary, Brooklyn Bridge, Janis Joplin, Leonard Cohen,  Momas and the Pappas, Dion and Del Shannon. Then  I went through my New age Instrumental years, and am just emerging from that. Never liked Elvis or any country music. I was most interested in folk, and 60's rock and roll. Wasn't a big fan of the Beatles either.

Well, this is my first year in college....so that would make sense PuffPuffPass!  At least I am admitting my love for them now.  I even went to an NSYNC concert.  (I maintain that it was actually entertaining!)  Other than that, I haven't been to any concerts except for Ben Folds last June at Summerfest in Milwaukee!

Well, I might as well show my age:

When I was a kid, I couldn't get enough of the Partridge Family.  I'd stand on my bed singing to their records into my hairbrush and I'd make my little brother play the guitar...which looked an awful lot like a regular clothes hanger!

As a preteen, I loved ABBA's music.

In high school, we listened and danced to The Eagles, Aerosmith, ELO, Journey, The Bee Gees, etc.

Now, all I listen to is contemporary Christian music.  I barely know what's on the top 40 anymore.

Nons55-
One of my research professors used to (or so he claimed) that he jammed alot with those guys.....  Who knows?

I grew up on country and folk music via my folks taste....

High school was rebellion years:  Green Day, Nirvana, Offspring, Metallica, AC/DC,etc...

College years: Classic Hippy Rock &  Jam Bands- Phish, Widespread Panic, Doors, Grateful Dead, Rusted Root, Allman Brothers, etc....

Grad School:  same as college, revisiting high school tastes, and now I am into pre- blue grass music (ie. mountain music/English ballads/celtic music)

I love folk music and classical music.... I love all music!! its medicinal to my soul.... Except country...  Developed bad taste for it....

That is a cool story, Shamon!

Anyway, I forgot to mention my first true love of music.  I LOVE Broadway musicals.  I sing really loud in my car to my favorite musicals; some I've seen (Cabaret, Gypsy, Mamma Mia [the songs of ABBA Rupertydupe!  You should see it, just for the rendition of the songs!], Chicago, etc, etc), others that I've been in (Footloose, Anything Goes, Crazy For You, The Wizard of Oz, etc, etc), and some that I just am familiar with the music (Wicked, Avenue Q, The Boy From Oz, Little Shop of Horrors).  I'm also a huge classical music fan, I love Mozart's "Requiem."  My chorus actually sang several movements from the work and it was amazing.

As far as other favorites go, I listen to lots of music.  Again, Ben Folds ranks up there, but I also love Billy Joel, Elton John, Beulah, cultural music (India, Spanish, etc), lots of classic rock.  I'm a very well rounded music fan.  Smiley

Country? Not much. But Willie Nelson is cool!

And Rupertydupe, AEROSMITH! the Bee Gees are great too, a lot of their songs are revived in the past few years.
