Guess it falls to me this time to report on the hurricane.  Since it is projected to head straight to my doorstep.
Luckily I am 4 hours inland.  But the direct path of the eye is falling on southeastern Alabama.

We've spoken with my brother in Waveland, MS (btw. New Orleans and Mobile) and they are packing up.  He and my sister-in-law, 3 dogs and the inlaws live 2 blocks from the beach and there will most definitely be flooding.  They are just going to a hotel close by on higher ground.

I'm also worried about all of my family in Pensacola.  My aunt and uncle have a new home that was just built and have windows that will sustain 120 mph winds so they are staying put. It's the folks out on Pensacola Beach that I'm worried about.  Lots more family out there.  Beach folk are a hard-headed bunch.  The oldtimers just refuse to leave.  When Opal got to them the last time we had one, they were all stuck on the interstate at the last minute trying to get out.  It was horrible.

Will keep ya'll posted as the week progresses.

I hope you and your family members will be OK.   I guess if you live on the gulf coast it's one of the prices you pay.  We've been "lucky" the last few years, but unfortunately, our good luck means bad luck for someone else.

Yes, Angel.   Southeastern side 3 1/2 to 4 hours inland.  We will get all the tornados which worries me more.  Also we are the land of pine trees, many of which are dead and just waiting for a good wind.

LL, have you been in contact with your family in Pensocola?  It sure looks like they can at least expect flooding.

The Lousiiana Governor is concerned about flooding in the New Orleans area as well he should be!   There is not another city in the USA as low as the Wetlands area, I don't think!

The family in Pensacola is going to ride it out.

I can't BELIEVE I'm most likely gonna miss the premiere of Survivor.  seaglass is going to tape it for me.   Cool

I'm hearing that batteries and candles are selling out in town.  I've got to dig some of my candles out of boxes tonight.  Need to get some bags of ice and borrow a large ice chest from my parents.  hmm...what else...

A Flashlight
Make sure your cell phone is charged.
Bottled Water/bottled juice(and I don't mean wine Roll Eyes)
Peanut Butter/Crackers
Pork & Beans
A fresh loaf of Bread/any canned meat
Maybe some apples/oranges
A small bag packed for overnight or nights in your car!

I'm sure you have an unbrella/raincoat/boots Huh

Why not go home to Mom's?  Ride it out with them, they may need you, even if they may not think so!  We never know what can happen in a storm.
Is their boat tied down good enough?

Ok, this is all I can think of!

LL I am thinking of you, almost as much as I think of my siblings.  I hope everything turns out just fine, but please take all precautions and be safe.  The Gulf Coast looks like it's gonna get hit pretty hard. Embarassed

Was so dissapointed that we weren't able to meet when I was there in July.  Two weeks just flies by.

Since you live in a wooded area like I do, I know trees and tree branches falling will cause lots of damage to power lines, and repairs could take a long time.    If you have any frozen meat, it might be best to cook any it ahead of time, and place it in the frig to transfer to the cooler when you need to.  Better than losing it completely.   Another time and place, a bunch of neighbors got together and grilled all their thawed meat and had a hearty meal before going back to dealing with things.

I'm afraid N.O. is still in the projected path of Ivan.  Seems like it's easing farther west with every forecast.

You are right Pocket.   I would almost rather be in the direct path as it was yesterday than to be on the east side of it.

Thanks Jaypee!
