GOALS, Motivation & Ambition!

Do you have GOALS?
Ones that you have set for yourself that are possible to acheive?

Are you motivated? Encouraged by family & friends?

Are you ambitious? To the point of taking a course, studying more to get to the station in life you desire?

Years ago I took a Dale Carnegie course, "How To Win Friends & Influence People". As the years have gone by and memory fails, there are times when I remember some of the principal guides from his book.
Anyone in the sales field has most likely had this course or read the book. Along with the following...........

"The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale, also a wonderful book for motivation.

Og Mandindo - The Greatest Salesman In The World", also part two.

Now you're thinking shouldn't this be in the book section? NO, for it is about goals and Motivation!

Ok, so I'm retired! My mind still works in a salesman mentality, to a degree Roll Eyes

Plus I like to know what the younger generation thinks and feels about their goals.

There are also more updated books on how to succeed and get ahead in your life endeavors and goals.

From Dale Carnegie's Course, I made a GOAL CHART. On a 3X5 card, I wrote down Ten Goals,placed on the night stand and looked at each one every morning before I got out of bed.
It does work, soon I started crossing then off, one by one, no matter where it was on the list of ten. By years end, I had crossed off all ten! What an accomplishment!

be debt free per the Dave Ramsey way....

have a fat passport....

live modestly and meagerly.... a colleague of mine and her husband are debt free, live meagerly, no children, and have fat passports...

twice a year... he'll come in and ask her if she wants to go to say.... Japan, France, Britian, Italy, Australia, etc....
its possible with their lifestyle and choices...

it motivates me because I see that its possible...

I also want to travel the world. If the day comes, I plan on travelling the world via the route taken by Amazing Race contestants. Grin

Get more degree, maybe in the sciences: Applied Physics, Biochemistry, AI.

a house is probably the only i would consider going into debt over (eventually will i imagine)

Ahh, but i would own it eventually, or in theory i would own it, i am getting close to enough for a downpayment, but i don't get paid enough to make monthly payments, and Gas and electric bills, and phone, and cable, and still have enough left over to eat. SO my downpayment would have to be about half the cost of the place, unless i could get a roommate post haste

A Career? Had one, a teacher. retired from that.
Own A Home? Yes already do and it is all paid in full.

Increase Your Annual Salary? I am retired so don't get a salary
$20,000 Savings? have that
$50,000 Savings? have that
$100,00 Savings? have that
College Fund for Children? 2 kids already through college, paid in fiull for that already
*Retirement Fund for Self/Spouse? Have one, although one can never really have enough in a retirement fund and my husband is inelligable to collect Social Security as he will just get a state pention. So I chose this one as it is important to save as much as possible for retirement.

we have lots of goals, just none listed on this poll. Ours are more along the lines of losing weight (We each have lot 50+lbs so far), retiring at age 55 (my husband is considering this as his last year of teaching), and purchasing land to build one more home for retirement years. (Have to wait until our parents are no longer in our care to do that)
We are debt free, have put both sons through college, helped them both toward home ownership and all that is left is retirement, grandchildren hopefully and travel around the USA like we did when the kids were young. At this time we don't have any financial problems and don't forsee any in the future. (We are both only children with very rich, very elderly relatives with us as next of kin) Plus we have always lived the simple life and are both extremely frugal so have few needs or wants.

Our one goal that we have acheived, by the way, have little to do with, is having good health at this age. After seeing some of our friends at the recent Reunion, we are grateful and thankful for being in this good a shape at this time in our lives. Our thanks is to God for giving us this good health at this time in our lives.
