Here is my case that I will be presenting. If you have any tips please post.

India/Pakistan Affirmative Case

Significance: Between the borders of India and Pakistana is a small piece of land called Kashmir. For a very long time the two countries have been fighting for Kashir, so that they can claim the land there own. In Kashmir almost everyday people are killed there just like how the terrorists are in Iraq. Kasmir is quickly becoming a field of blood and this problem can become worst very soon if a plan by the U.N. is not taken now. As I speak both India and Pakistan are testing and making nuclear weapons, both of them have addmitted to that. India has made tests on May 11, and 13 of 1998; claimed for a total of 5. Pakistan has conducted tests on May 28, and 30 1998, in response to Indias testing. Pakistan has claimed to testing 6 times. When two countries hate each other, and have Nuclear Weapons, the U.N. needs to get involved. As the United States we need to present a Plan that will put troops into the middle of Kashmir to keep both Pakistan and India at bay.

Inherency: In side the Kasmir boarder there are 350,000 Inidan troops waiting for anything to happen. These troops are being killed everyday from Pakistinian civilians. There are about an equal amount of Pakistinian troops and deaths. There is constant death and mourning over in Kashmir, even though the goverments of both countries are making many agreements. A Indian soldier had told a internet site before he was to be deplyed to Kashmir that . When and Indian Soldier is deployed to Kashmir, he should tell his familly to get his coffin ready. This clearly explains that many people fell the tension in the area. If there have been many agreements that have not done a lot, then this is where the United States needs to help the U.N. deploy troops into the area. It has been a great thing that no nuclear weapons have been used, but that doesnt mean that they wont. If troops were sent into the area it would reinforce both sides not to use nuclear weapons.

Causality: The causes from the problem are over a piece of land. This piece of land has been fought over since the time of Jesus Christ. Both Pakistan and India both believe they have the rights to the land because the both say that there great fathers had control over the land and the other invaded. With a growing threat of nuclear weapons this problem could become a lot worse. Many people call Kashmir, A powder keg ready to explode! This will happen and many inocent lives shall be lost if there is not drasitc measure from the U.N. and the United States to stop the fighting over the land. Many people have said, You should just split the land 50-50, or take a vote in the country on what it would like to become. This would be completley wrong because both people of Pakistan and India live in Kasmir. If a plan were to be made to split the land 50-50 you would have some people trying to say that they didnt get the fair deal and more bloodshed would come. While that would be going on if people that were from Pakistan were to be living in the new India then they would have to pick up there stuff leave there job and have to create a completeley new life which would be hard to do. An example of that is in astudy by the U.S. government that only 9% of foreign imagrants ever get back onto the right foot. If the odds for people that are coming to America are that bad how would the people in Pakistan and India do when both of them have some of the worlds worst economys. Both countries are trying to create new jobs but it is very hard to do.

Solvency: Our plan would have troops become deployed into the Kasmir area. For that to happen we need to do a few things for it to work. The U.N. has to do the following steps to start a strong relationship.
1. There needs to be funding for deocracy and governance programs through nongovernmental organizatons that strengthen the institutions of civil society.
2. Increasing funding for primary education, family planning, child suvival, and micro-credit programs. This will help by making the countries believe that the U.N. believe that they are a country with a future.
3. Encouraging the internationalfinancial institutions to continue to work with one another (Inda and Pakistan) to revieve each others economy
4. Broadening military-to-military exchanges and theater engagement activites, including exercises focused on peacekeeping and initiating regular high-level exchanges.
During this time the U.N. with United States troops and troops from other countries shall be deployed into the midst of Kashmir. The exact amount of troops for this operation should be around 8,000. This amount should be enough to spread across the area of Kashmir. When the troops are put into Kashmir the U.N. will have both countries move ther military to their respected boarders. This will decrease the amount of death that may occur duing this process. With troops from all around the world in the area both the Pakistinian people and the people of India will not want to use one of there nuclear weapons into Kashmir now, unless they would like to start a war with the rest of the world against them. Steps number 1-4 would also make the countries respect the rest of the world at that time. (See Mr. Cubage for funding ideas.) If there is any attacks from any of the countries for a prolonged amount of time then either A. The U.N. will completley stop trade and goods with both countries or if the U.N. would not comply then B. The United States will stop all trade and goods with the countries. Both my partner and I have called this case to a Fiat, which makes this case to be acted as if it has been passed throught the government.

Advantages: If this case would be adopted by the U.N.there would be numurous things that would happen for the good of everyone. In both countries children live everyday with the fear that they could die from a bomb or that a parent could be killed in action. This plan would make it so these children would not be afraid of them or there parents being killed every day. With this happening they can spend more time on school which would help them grow up and make this world a better place. With this plan authorized we can moniter and control the use of nuclear material in both countries. This would make both countries feel safer if they knew what each other was doing. It would also help us incase we notice any material being stolen for a possible terrorist attack. Though both countries are not the leading makers of oil, they do have a lot on there land. We would then be able to slowly bring down the price for oil for the whole world if they decide to give out more oil. Giving out more oil for them would create more jobs and money for the countries. Most importently of all, there would be a start of a peace between the two countries and Kashmir. They would finally be able to start a long lasting friendship. A friendship which would make them allies in the future. Through this whole ordeal both India and Pakistan would become stronger allies with the U.N.

Disadvantages: The biggest disadvantage about this case and any case that has to do with the Military is that there is a possiblity of death. If the U.N. would be there though there wouldnt be as many deaths of Americans as there are in Iraq. The amount of troops shall be divided among the countries going so it shall be equall for all. Though it is very unlikley, because it hasnt happened to this day, that both countries will disagree with what is going on and launch a Nuclear weapon. This clearly would not happen though because, A. They would have become to close of an ally to the U.N. and its countries and B. Because if they did a war would probably be inflicted onto them by the U.N.
The U.N. has announced war only once before and that was the Korean War. With this plan I hope that you can clearly see that both the Pakistinian people and the Inidans are in a very bad conflict, and that they have been in this conflict for a long time. It is time that this should end, and with a peacefull way by sending troops to keep the peace in Kashmir and solve this problem once and for all. Thank You.

Dont think there is much I could add to this, looks like you have done quite a bit of research.

I will only say that when you are doing a debate, you need to spend a good amount of time focussed on what the objections are that will be raised. To prepare simply try to spend some time thinking about what your oppenant will find as flaws in your theory

For example, what would be the downside of sending troops in?

look what is happening in Iraq, how would you get support to send more tropops into yet another country

The people in Kashir, what do they want... own government? or foreign soldiers?

Can Kashir actually control thier own destiny or should the land be dissolved into the 2 countries?

these are a few things I would bring up against your points..

Remember, you have a great debate allready, all Im saying is focus on what the other person is gonna bring up as a weak spot.... this way you will be ready to answer and because you have thought about it ahead of time. You will sound very confident as you slowly speak in proper tones.... because you are not trying to figure out your answer as you speak, you will allready be prepared

My debate went fine. I had to go against all Varsity so that already gave me a disadvantage but I placed 8th and 1st out of all Novice. (Varisty 1 year of more. Novice First Year)
