Let me tell you I have never smiled so much in my life than after the Cardinals/Dodgers game.

http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stl/news/stl_news.jsp?ymd=20 041010&content_id=890451&vkey=news_stl&fext=.jsp

I was happy the Cards had just won when out of the blue I see the Dodgers coming out of their dugout to shake hands with the Cards. I was floored. I have not seen sportsmanship like this since the days I played little league. One thing our coach always drilled into us was to respect the other team for the job well done whether they won or lost.

To see both teams out there laughing and shaking hands almost brought a tear to my eye (hey, I'm a guy, can't do that now can I?). Kudos to Larry Walker for the idea. Kudos to both organizations for bringing some class back to the sport. I just hope it catches on with the other teams.

Very cool.  I can see why it is such a big deal.  Would have brought a tear to my eye too and I'm not even a baseball fan.

Well, bottom line is this....

Growing up baseball teams were always told to go out, shake hands and congratulate the winner after a game.

Major league baseball has never done this. The losing team just files into the clubhouse and disappears.

What happened last night was a great way to show todays youth that professional atheletes can be good role models.

I sat there and watched opposing players laughing with each other, shaking hands, etc. As a parent I would hope my kids could learn from this and take this level of sportsmanship into their games. The bottom line is, it is just a game. If someone wins, be a good sport and tell them great game.

Borad, I didn't mean any disrespect.  My DH will tell you that it would be a miracle if I could even tell you which sports are played each season.

Do offense taken.  Grin

For baseball just remember the following:

1) Homeruns are worth 3 points since they are hit so far.
2) There are 4 quarters to a game that are 15 min. each
3) The person throwing the ball is the quarterback.
4) The man behind the plate is the short receiver, since he catches the ball thrown by the quarterback.

Keep all that in mind and you will have all the basics down for baseball.  Wink

You have no idea how dangerous all that information is that you're feeding to me, Borad!  I mean, I can just see that short receiver behind the plate with his hockey stick, waiting to hit the birdie offsides.

*LOL*  You guys are funny

Boradamer, I agree that was a great moment..I never really thought about it before, but you are right, the losing team just leaves...Good on them for congratulating the winners...

(Lets see what happens at the Yankee Red Sox Game, whose taking bets what it's more likely a chair will be thrown then they will shake hands *LOL*)

Not feeling well so I did not watch the end of the Astros/Braves game. I wonder if they did it?
