Has anyone ever died from a toothache? I've never had one until now so I don't know. And I'm old. It hurts. I drink icewater all day and night long. And every sip I take sends a shock to my being. It's like an electrocution of the mouth.

So I went to the dentist today. I'm new to my hometown and have no dentist yet. So I chose someone I knew. A boy I met in the 8th grade. I trust people I know from school. Well, he found an exposed root due to an exceeding gumline. I thought gravity pulled everything DOWN not UP. So he filled the tiny hole and I thought that was that.

Well it's NOT. My mouth feels like the Survivor volcanos are exploding in it.

Okay, that's enough venting for now. I'll be back to vent some more tomorrow.

Have you ever seen the movie Marathon Man with Dustin hoffman? It wasn't until I experienced a toothache that i truly understood the scene where they torture him. :yikes:

Perhaps something warm and soothing would help now that it's not exposed anymore. I'm thinking of you!

I have never had a toothache, but i used to get these ulcers on my gumline...it hurt SO BAD. I couldn't chew, couldn't eat, talked with my mouth shut as much as i could. It wsa brutal. and nothing you can do except wait them out.. Sad

Lake, try Sensodyne toothpaste. Every blue moon, I get excrutiating pains like that. A few weeks of using Sensodyne really helps. The tube says, however, that you're not supposed to use it over a long period of time.

I live off sensodyne toothpaste. The worst tooth pain I ever had was with my last pregnancy. I had to go on a special diet and one of the things reduced in my diet was calcium. The baby will take what it needs from your body however it has to and the little bugger sucked all the calcium out of my teeth & weakened them. I ended up having 3 root canals during that pregnancy.

LL, I'm so sorry you are in pain. Since you are a smoker and probably won't quit, you should not go without having a 6 month check up without fail.
Mr L never misses his apt, for he is on time for cleanings and checkups.

You may have a gum desease, or possibly needing a root canal.
I do hope you get some relief, and make sure you go every 6 months from now on for checkups.
Maybe you can prevent this from happening.

Try some salt in a cup of warm water and hold it in your mouth for a few seconds until you finish all of it.

I was also going to suggest this.

Awww...Lake...I didn't realize you smoked. Luci has your best interests at heart and she's right--the smoking probably exacerbates the problem. Embarassed

Why don't you give up smoking for a healthier alternative...like chocolate? Roll Eyes

Really, though, painful teeth are no laughing matter. Been there, done that.

I have sensitive teeth, and used to use Sensodyne, but I've switched to Aquafresh for sensitive teeth. It tastes better, works as well, and is cheaper.

LL, in my experience (and I have lots of time in the dental chair) once the nerve is agitated, it takes a bit of time to calm down, but if the pain is continues and is getting worse, it could be an abscess, and you'll need to go back. I remember a night I sat with whiskey in my mouth for hours to numb a tooth that was blowing up.......don't recommend that. After the tooth was taken care of, my mouth actually peeled. Good luck!....I hate toothaches!
